Due to an unfortunate malfunction on my computer which deleted EVERY single piece of design work I have ever done from my hard drive (luckily the clothing I have designed thusfar and the snapshots I have copies of in SL). The malfunction didnt affect anythinge else just the one folder that I had ALL of my SL design work in. This means every single fabric swatch and texture is gone save for a few and the ones I can save to my hard drive from SL. This means every template I made for doing snapshots needs to be recreated along with all of the logos is gone. Flipper tried his best to restore and recover everything that was deleted which resulted in maybe 1/16th of my overall work. Hopefully we can work to recover more stuff but otherwise it is going to be a LONG road finding and recreating my massive database of fabric swatches, trims and what have you. Even if I can recover everything it is going to take weeks to get it all back in working order. I'm so pissed to the point I can't even react to it. I can't scream. I can't cry. Many apologies but I will not be able to take any custom orders for some time and I will not be producing any new work until I get things back in order A word of advice to all designers out there. Back your shit up, yo!

From: My Mackenzie omg im so sorry to hear that Jennifur Thanks. Its been quite frustrating thusfar.... now begins the tedious task of Saving all of my SL textures (clothing targas and snapshots) back to my hard drive so I can back them up. Then comes the fun of rebuilding my fabric and texture library and recreating my snapshot templates.

That's just awful! I really love your stuff, Jennyfur, I hope the recovery goes well. I recenty lost some of my own work to a hard drive failure. Ironically, it was my little home backup server that died. Heh. Next time, CD-Rs

Ach, what a terrible thing! I, for one, will learn from your mistake and start backing my stuff up. We all get lazy about this, and it could happen at any time. Thanks for the word of warning, and I hope your recovery isn't too painful.

I believe Munchflower had a har drive failure once which is why I kept every single piece of clothing targa's and all of the snapshots in SL. Of course my inventory is insane... but at least they are there.

From: Tanaquil Karuna That truly sucks! I hope you can retrieve the most things possible from SL then... The biggest loss has been my fabric/textures library... some of which I spent meticulous hours on one just editting it to perfection for use. Image trying to take the background out from behind mesh, fishnet or lace etc.... I've literally spent an entire evening just on one single fabric preparation. That is what is really driving me nuts at this point. Regathering fabrics/textures...re-editing fabrics/textures...

Sorry to hear that Jennyfur. For a sec I thought it was that night out with Washu, where she stole your soul and then -- hehe, kidding.
But I've suffered the same thing in a way, had an array of mine totally blow out from a hard drive failure (I wasn't running the right RAID level for data redundancy) and I lost it all. I completely sympathize.
If you can, and I know Flip is up to it, try to get a RAID-5 system going, at least you have a prayer if something physical goes wrong. Or just burn backups, but I'm sure you wish you had...I sure did.
Sorry to hear it, hope you can find the resolve to forge ahead. From ashes comes inspiration, they say...

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. In the past I have suffered under similar circumstances. I lost two year of art work. I was wondering what, if any thing, have you done to try to retrieve your precious data? There are so many ways to lose data on a hard drive, some times it is possible to recover that data using programs like norton disk doctor. Especially if you know some of the filenames, and you haven't used the computer too much sense loosing the files. Perhaps there is some one sl experienced in data retrieval that lives in your area.

Well Flipper being the tech geek he is did just about everything possible. We ran some sort of Undelete program, which recovered some, but most of the stuff had already been written over by other things during the process of the day...so its gone. It was a hard drive failure so there wasnt much i could do to recover things.

Jennyfur,
It is technically possible to recover data from a hard drive, even when it has been overwritten. There are specialist places that will do this for you - but it's likely to be very expensive.

Jen, I feel your pain that happend to me last march when I had a bug slip in through the fire wall and the cable router to totaly expunge my system. When all was said and done I had lost 9 months of work that was on the hard drive. Luckly there was most of it saved on CD roms. Burners are your friend.... but I know how you feel and its painful to say the least. I hope you get back up to par soon but remember this hun it may have been a sign that it was time to release old Ideas and build new ones.. ((hugs)) Shadow

Well, we recovered as much as we could. The problem is, Jenn did a reboot, chkdsk ran upon the next start and Jenn said "do it later!" rather than grabbing me and saying "Hey Flip, this doesn't look right!" So a lot of the data was beyond recovery. Hopefully we'll be able to dig a bunch of it up through SL and friends, so hopefully this is only a temporary set back. In the meantime, I'll just give Jenn a lot of backrubs! -Flip
