Well, Vexx. Good points: it'll last you ages, good scenery, very polished. Bad points: really hard, like extremely hard.
That was the only good game I had, then I moved house and threw it away, well, sold it for 35 Euros, which is the same thing.

Reasons to get an XBox:
- Halo (eagerly awaiting Halo 2) - Project Gotham Racing 2 (ooohh ahhh) - GTA 3 (finally!) - no mem card needed - not too shabby dvd player - nice meaty controllers with: Six analog buttons with 256 levels of sensitivity Two analog pressure-point triggers cable has inline release (great when your lame-O friend trips over the cables.. like a breakaway feature)

From: someone Originally posted by Eggy Lippmann You wanna buy an Xbox fen? Well, would you buy a Pentium III running at 700 MHz, with a Geforce 3 graphics card? That's what the ugly ass Xbox has inside it, you know? A crappy outdated PC. I wouldn't. I have a REAL PC, thank you very much. It's older than any Xbox, but runs twice as fast, has gobs more RAM/HD space etc. Yes, but consoles dont have all that extra junk running, so it doesnt need as much power. Hence the $200 tag... Although, I do prefer PC gaming. EDIT: Poo! Double post.

From: someone Originally posted by Ama Omega The real question I think now, after reading all this is, how often do you gather your friends around your computer to play games? That is the advantage of the console. You can grab a friend or 3 and invite them over for some game time. Or a few more and have a tournament. Sure you can do lan parties (hehe I actually do lan parties more than I play consoles), but that involves everyone having a computer they are willing to tote to someones house and all the network gear etc. <shrug> They both have their place. And the xbox is a customized PC designed for making low resolution images look good. It does that much better than your computer does. Uh... Internet? Look Ama, I'm not american. We dont have those huge sprawling suburbs that are so common over there, plus the majority of our population is old and retired. You cant just go out and find a kid to play with on your lawn. There is no lawn. Going out of my house means going through a crowd of people who are standing on a narrow sidewalk waiting for the next bus to arrive, putting up with noise, pollution and the likelihood of getting mugged People as a general rule dont get together in each others houses unless theres a birthday party or something. Going over to my geographically closest friend's house would already require me like a half an hour bus ride, and a nasty one that goes through a horrible neighborhood here where all the drug addicts get their fix. Consoles arent very popular around here, they are mostly for dumb rich kids, and everyone else just gets a cheap PC and pirates all his games. You cant beat the PC's game library. You can play all the games ever made for it in the past 20 years, and you can emulate just about every console ever made, and all of it for free, or the cost of a CD. Never mind all the OTHER stuff you can do with PCs... does the Xbox have an ICQ client? Sure, you can have a console AND a PC. But that would require wasting money on non essential items, and in Portugal we are rather poor. Fact of the matter is, when faced with a PC XOR Console choice, there's no way to beat the good ole pee cee.

Well I do think Ama had a point, it's a nice cheap way to have a very easy to do (no tech knowledge required) "LAN party" type night. Although I still stand by my statements before; PCs are superior in most ways.
But Eggy, just because your particular situation makes consoles useless doesn't mean they are useless for everyone. You make it sound like Portugal has no suburbs at all...how could it not?

But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

Alas, last time I checked Fen didn't live in portugal. My wife and I used to on a regular basis (once per week) get together with some family friends for pizza. We did this until one of our friends got pregnant and couldn't stay up late enough to make it worth it. Getting together with friends is definatly better than over an internet connection, and I am sorry that your situation precludes you from experiencing that. Garoad sumed it up nicely, while I prefer lan get togethers I think I am in a fairly unique situation (my self and my group of friends all have computer science or MIS degrees, and we have enough laptops capable of playing games that no one has to drag a full fledged computer anywhere). For most people a console game system offers a much simpler (vs impossible) way to play some games with some friends. Actually visiting people and being in the same room when playing is rewarding on many levels beyond an internet connection where you might as well be playing a well written AI on your home computer.

I have a Gamecube and it's cool for the Nintendo titles like Zelda, Mario related, Metroid, etc. As for everything else, it's just better on the Xbox. I'm going to get one soon and have it chipped with a larger HD, then stick all my MP3's & DIVX movies on there.
As for games, Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox live is awesome. For other quality games that work on live, i hear Crimson Skies, Top Spin Tennis, and Project Gotham Racing 2 are great. Dance Dance Revolution just came out for the Xbox if you want to boogie. You can go against other people online with that game as well. ESPN NBA 2K4 & NBA Live 2k4 are fun. And then there's.. GTA3 Double Pack True Crime Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Armed & Dangerous

Gamecube has some really tripaliscious games (i.e. Viewtiful Joe) but they are definitely of a specific niche. Great for stoners. PS2 has the most choice as far as games go, and if a game is going to be multi-platform, it will almost definitely be on it. XBox has some great graphics, and yes, Fable is coming out exclusively on it which may make me buy one. One company is coming out with a PC console. Basically, you just drop a CD-Rom in it, and it plays like any other console game. It's windows based (just does the games, not the OS) and has internet support for when new drivers come out and for playing online games. If this piques enough people's interest, I'll look for the article and give more info. Of course, I own a Gamecube

That last one sounded good until the word 'drivers' came into it That's what I love about consoles... generally speaking (aside from minor revisions like xbox 1.0, 1.1 etc) they're all the same. No hardware decisions, no drivers to keep updating/breaking and so when you stick a game in, provided neither piece of hardware is faulty, it's guaranteed to work. Bringing driver revisions into it takes some of that away, and is a bad idea. You'll soon get Game X only working with 1.2 and not 1.0, but Game Y refusing to work with 1.2 and only supporting 1.0 etc etc. Use one driver, if there are bugs in it then tough... get the game developers to work around them.
