That's what I was thinking, you all of a sudden hear a bunch of Lindens talking and you just bust into a room and they're all like, "HOW DID YOU GET HERE??? WHAT DID YOU DO???"

900K and climbing

I was somehow "inspired" by this thread to go and see for myself. I'm currently at 903,000m and rocketing upward at 200+ knots. Not much to see, but it's cool to be here :)

No, I have nothing better to do on this rainy afternoon :D

I think Plastic Duck wins.

I wonder if the color ever comes back or it's my video card? I am in absolutely pitch-black conditions at 1,100,000 meters. :D

Geez, that must have taken Plastic days at that rate of ascent.

I'm doing somewhere under a million meters per hour at 234 knots vertical speed. My avie still looks normal but is acting very nervous, jerking about in sudden spasms when stopped. Ascent is likewise very agitated and it looks like I could be torn asunder at any moment.

My attachment is still functional but can no longer be seen.

You people are crazy.
I was one of the first people to do this sort of thing. Darwin Appleby was another, he even made a big event out of it in kazenojin. Christopher Omega was yet another one.
At one time, we even pondered coding up a synchronized flight system and selling tickets...

And Eggy thinks we're crazy? :D

It s pretty fun, because you get to see the "edges" of the world.....Also, when I got back down I had landed outside the world boundries!

LOL :D
I'm sorry, this is just insane, seeing people refer to all these concepts as if they were brand new.
The FIC needs to ramp up its educational efforts.

Maybe referring to them as new is in error, but everyone wants to try it for themselves.

Pffffffft.

I've got a motorcycle I made as a proof-of-concept vehicle that will break the virtual sound barrier. 250 m/s is hardly the limit. :D Safe to drive, no, but fun in that milisecond before you ghost your avatar and the bike goes offworld.

*edit*

On followup testing, you may be right. While it used to exceed 600 mph, it now caps out at 599.24 every time. There must have been a new limitation imposed sometime between 1.3 and now. Poo. Now this thing isn't near as cool :(

When I built the SpaceShipOne replica, I had it consistently bouncing around the sims at 1200m/sec before I got its handling under control. Then again, most of my vehicles do tend to mix physics functionalities up in ways that are specifically warned against...

I think the key in this case was using gravity as a slingshot. Gravity doesn't have the limitations of llSetForce() :D

Thats nothing! One day I went up to 5mil and took screenies. It looks like an aurora starts to happen and the sky becomes a giant box with different colors flying all around you. I'll post the screenies if I have time.

Best I've done was 7.2 million. A friend that was with me went higher and his account vanished from SL!

Logged into WoW later on that day to find him wandering around in confusion asking about where the nearest sandbox was located in Durotar. Evidently, passing 7.5 million meters ejects you through the Nth Dimension into another Massively Multiplayer World.

Hmm, I've got some time to kill, let's see if I can break your record :-)

You're gonna need to break 16 million for it to be a record, I think.
Also, bear in mind that there is a maximum speed of 250 m/s in SL...
and so it will take you about an hour per million.

Is it really the fastest you can go, or just where llGetVel() stops? I was curious about that.

It's the fastest you can go. The limit is arbitrary, and is in place to make sure the physics engine works properly, especially with regards to collision detection and sim transitions.

Stupid bug fixers :)

Anyways, I got up to around 350km before I went to work with a client... It took about 20 minutes.
