From: Jeska Linden This topic is very appropriate for the General forum and there is some interesting discussion occuring, but please don't post personal messages into the forums. Also, please do not post personal attacks against each other in the forums. OH REALY. Nice real nice LL. I will remember to make sure when I want to harrass someone to use this tactic. Thanks for the helds up its always nice to have a new weapon.

Well well, this is actually quite amusing in a watching someone act in a totally irrational manner because you have nothing better to do sort of way.

What weapon? You say something, and she edits it out. That's not exactly the atomic bomb of conversational warfare.

From: Ardith Mifflin What weapon? You say something, and she edits it out. That's not exactly the atomic bomb of conversational warfare. I guess you would of understood before I was edited by Jeska. Point being someone can send you an IM if you mute them. If you don't respond to them the way they want to be answered. Then they can start a thread about it. IMO thats a form of harrasment. If you post anything about the IM you get the warning, the post gets edited. Then apparently they get a pat on the back from a linden about what a great thread it is. Nice system. I suggest if a poster is muted they can't IM you or Email you. Weapon; harrass someone, if they dont answer your posts IM them. No matter what answer they give in IM, start a thread about them. There is nothing in the TOS against it as was pointed out to me by a linden.

I suggest if a poster is muted they can't IM you or Email you. But this thread isn't about you. Your name isn't mentioned at all in his post.

I can't post the IM's that its against the TOS. My posts were edited, by a linden. I'm not sure I understand. You're suggesting that Juro threatened to post your IM conversation? Is that correct?

No? You guys are serious? Wow.. this sounds like the 11 year-olds that I teach and is about that juvenile. This was the first time I checked the general thread and probably the last.

From: Ardith Mifflin I'm not sure I understand. You're suggesting that Juro threatened to post your IM conversation? Is that correct? No. Not at all. IM's are private and I believe it is against TOS to post them on the forums. This thing has gotten away from the original intention. I got muted by someone, as a result, I started to wonder if muting was used frequently and *how* people use it. I purposely kept from naming anyone, as that wasn't the point of the thread. Because there has been some conversation in other threads about open channels of communication and heated debate, I was curious how everyone used and/or viewed muting as a tool and what effect it had on truly open dialogue. Unfortunately, the original intent of the thread has taken a dive and morphed into a 'he said/she said' deal - which was not the intent.

A good idea, it would be helpful if there was some notice to the one who is muted letting them know they've been muted.

Antagonistic and Jauani; Thanks much. Juro I guess it was a case of bad timing. Things are fine between us. Your asking why ppl use mute. I do mostly when I see someone spaming a thread I find interesting. If they are not adding to the conversation or if only posting to pull everyone off topic. Mostly I mute ppl when I read something very offensive by that poster. I have some regualr posters now muted becuase I find no value in anything they have said for a very long time.

This was one of the funniest threads that I've read in a long, long time.
"Ah-ha! Take that!"
"No, you take THIS!"
"Ah-ha! Gotcha!"
"Nope! Caught YOU peaking!"
