I didn't mind joining these groups..and as I see it..group IM's should be used for employees of the Club or Group. But it gets a bit annoying when I am having conversations in game and all of a sudden I am getting bombed with Group Spams about Events. Isn't that why there are Event posts?

I am having a conversation with a girlfriend etc. all of a sudden I have to search for her replies through a Spam ridden sea of crap. If I want to attend an Event..I will go to the Events Posts and look for one. Just my feelings..for that reason I have quit alot of groups...and now individuals are starting to abuse Calling Card Spam with Event notices and when I remove them from my calling card list..they may get a bit upset. There is a reason for Event Posts.

I understand groups that are hiring may want to let their friends know.
I also understand that people want to contact their friends to let them know of an Event..but there needs to be a mute function for groups to control the privacy you want when you need it. If there currently is one..I don't know about it.

Ironic, then, that you spam the forums with the same thread twice, huh?

That is why I do not join groups. I politely refuse all offers.

Even worse than group event announcements are individuals spamming the group for a personal event or asking for something.

Only group I belong to is Tribal Drums.

all my groups now are project based.

SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM

Man I love monty python lol.... I agree spam-IM's are a big drag..... I have only did one spam before, an that was for a wedding which was NOT posted as an event..... When I did, we almost crashed the server cause so many of my friends showed up... It was a great wedding, isn't that right Diamond hehehe.....

At events, I don't ever IM anyone to come for the simple reason that I am NOT a salesman and I always feel bad IMing anyone who don't IM me fiorst cause I HATE interupting their plans..... To me its sort of rude (I do get yelled at a bit by my friends for thinking that), but thats just me... hehehe

Here are some questions:

When you get offered to join a club group what do you expect from it? Free money? Free land? A social group?

It seems the only reason to join a club group IS to be told when events are and such things you are asking for Spam if you are a member.

Now if your getting Spam from plain calling cards or from a group like a mall, or a small REAL social group, or from an employee group then that’s another story.

But its funny to see someone say, humm I am in a random club group and those crazy people actually messaged me about their events how ccrraazzyy!

For any of those reading if you don't want Spam don't ask for it by accepting those offers to join such groups that’s only purpose in existence is to Spam (also known as bringing awareness of an imminent event)

Just trying to help shed some light on the topic (sorry for sarcasm)

Because i'm already struggling for some space in my group.

Alot of people make groups specifically to give thier friends and regular guests the up and up on events and things going on at that location, if you dont like it, leave the group :)

I think the main issue is that we have horrible group communication tools. I agree that the group spam ims are annoying and even counterproductive sometimes - their overuse can cause someone to leave a group, which is a shame. You cannot even send a message to your entire group if people are offline, other than using the voting feature, which is intrusive and extremely annoying to put it mildly.

I think one advantage that There definitely had over SL was in its group management tools. You could send out invitations to events easily to the other members of your group, and to other groups and individuals. You could gauge in advance the interest in an event by seeing the list of who was planning to attend, and those who were attending would get a notification automatically (similar to the new manual notify feature we have). Once LL improves the group functionaity to not be just a patched together set of features but a true group implementation that makes it easier for us to organize along shared interests, then you will see a lot of the current problems associated with groups go away.

I've dropped out of more groups than I can recall due to chat spam.

The only groups I belong to now, Cartel aside, are used for land, retailing or sims. Checking my email to find 20 emails consisting of, "Dude!" "LOL!" "WTF??!!" "Hi" was really, really annoying. So glad that doesn't happen anymore.

Exactly my point. This issue is only to address and make known that the Chat Groups do need more tools and features. Also concerning the post regarding what I think Group Chat is for....say you're going to have an Event..and you just want to speak to the employees..well..everyone in that group is gonna see it even though it may not pertain to them. OF course you can make individual groups within a group..one for Dancers..Escorts..or what not. As far as just the normal group chat..Spam is fine..and some do want to know when events are going on through it. With a "Mute" or "Privacy" functionality those that want to stay in the group can use it when needed as to not be disturbed during very intimate or private chats/or business they are having with others at the time without needing to leave the group..that way the Group and the member both win..and no membership is lost.

Blake, you can turn off IM's in chat history under preferences.

Specific IM's? I may be waiting on an important IM from a certain group while conversing with someone else..so it would be nice to be able to have individual mute functions of groups when needed.

I agree with the specific mute for certain times. The IM's will still come through you just have to open the IM box to see them after they fade. They don't get mixed in with your regular chat history that way and you don't have to wade through it.
