If i win the bidding will anyone put in for monthly charges if i give them a nice hunk of land. And what would you do if you owned the island.

Bam,

You stated to everyone you were standing with that you do not have the financial resources to pay the monthly fee, why are you bidding on the land? It is only driving up the cost.

I think he may be wanting to split it up among several people to cut it down to a managable price per month.

Bam , I'd be careful about that unless you have some really close friends that you trust to make the payment to you each month. It'd be hard to try to collect money from these people if they decide to skip out on you and leave ya with a 195/month payment.

I'm sure you've probably thought about this and the risks though.

Bam, are you sure your parents can afford the monthly payment for the ISland? ;)

Heh. I was thinking if I cancelled my Cable TV and my five stale MMO subscriptions, I could pay monthly for an entire sim and still save money in the end =)

Only problem is I have no idea what I'd do with it...

Sure I'll kick in a few bucks.
I would like to build the first SL ghetto. You know, gangs, drugs , and tenements. We can then start a group called ghetto fabulous. Ahhhhh eutopia........

That's not a ghetto, it's a slum!
As for Bam, I hope you knwo what you are doing, I would suggest that you have the finacial stuff worked out before you bid.

You do realize that the second the auction ends your credit card gets billed your bid price, right?

May want to have your finances worked out -before- bidding on the island. There ar probably some people bidding who take it VERY seriously and frivilous bids just harm them.

or help LL raise some cash... as long as a serious bidder wins out... but i'll assume they'd be proper and if a winnin auctioneer's card doesn take the charge, that they'd 'remove' that person from the bidding trace and look at the next winner based on the lowest bid that wans't in response to the griefer

That can get complicated if there are multiple people bidding.

best to simply do the auction over again and ban the non-paying winnder from bidding in this round.

That would be a really trashy way to 'help' SL. There's absolutely no defense there, sorry.

Me, I'm not bidding on any property, but if idiots deliberately drive up prices just for giggles, well, they're idiots and I feel very sorry for serious bidders who would be paying more than they otherwise would.

From the list of bidders on the island I see a land speculator or two in there.

I hope it doesn't go to someone who intends to sell the land at 10x the base cost or more. Land is hard enough for new users to come by without seeing 128m plots selling for $2000L or higher.

i don think that'll happen... or if it does that'll be one speculator with VERY sore pockets...

judging from the relatively lackluster response to the smaller plots in the other auctions i jus don see you bidding hundreds and hundreds of RL $ to speculate out land that might go jus a little bit over the current land rates. chances are you can buy game cash with us$ at a *MUCH* better rate elsewhere

Merely ban the non-paying winner from the next round? If I were LL, I'd ban the non-paying winner from the game, and consider filing charges against them.

Depends. If they divided it up into 1024 square meter plots, they could get good prices for them. The lack of plots that size is a major shortcoming of the current auction offerings.

Keep about 1/4 of the sim for myself, and subdivide the rest of the island into plots of various sizes, none smaller than 2048 and lease them.

Since the answers to this have a high probability of being whimsical, I'll start it off...

Remember the episode of The Simpsons, when Homer is daydreaming about "The Land of Chocolate"?

!!

I'd reconstruct the old newbie corral in Natoma so all the oldtimers could stand around and talk about how it was "back in the day" :p

I would build a giant maze and enjoy the dwell. I would then get bored and sell nice size plots to my friends.

I'd make a nudist colony with cliff-diving off of mountain peaks of Himalayan proportions, a tree the size of a stadium,
an upside down house clinging precariously to the land and a Niagara-sized waterfall flowing up into the sky...

I would build a giant Bob Sled Track.

And hold anual "race across the sim" events :D

I'd sink all of the land and build drifting icebergs with penguins, seals, and cows. Yes, the terrible carnivorous antarctic ice-cows, whose fangs can cleave a whale in two with a single bite.

I thought of something like that, too. But how would you actually handle the mechanism of leasing land under the 1.2 system? I'm still a bit confused by that.

i would create the worlds LARGEST prim bank... 15,000 little 1x1 wood cubes, stacked neatly in the very center of the sim
