What I want to know is how do you nicely tell someone that their forum avatar is freaking you out?

Hmmm...
How about a strip of tape to cover the part of your monitor where the avitars show?
Downside - you miss all the av's :o

I did that long ago when Freenet started up. I used tape at the bottom of the monitor to cover the distracting running ads. Boy am I glad that's over.

Further -- you could send them a comment that you have their av on "tape mode" :)

I am having the same problem with a rental property. There is a disturbing sign up that is rl images of an operation with the person having maggots coming out of their skin.
I just put a wall up along the property line that looks like a fence. They exercised their right to put it up, I exercised mine to cover the view.

I read this as im eating my lunch .. YUCK ..

I think in this case youd be justified putting on the other side of the wall facing them, "your sign is gross, please remove it" in big letters.

Do what the FIC does, come stand behind the owner of the building and start a conversation with your FIC friend calling the build crap and bitching about it. But they were so quick to judge and stamp their disapproval they didnt know that:
a) the build was still under construction
b) the textures used were temp place holders
c) the plot of land was just bought
d) didnt spend much time on it because a good friend is leaving SL for awhile so my time was spent the last few days with them and not on the build

Odd they would jump to conclusions in a brand new sim and start talking RIGHT behind my back while I was standing there working on it. But to appease the FIC masters I posted a thread asking for help on my build.

It's a shame you felt you had to ask them for help to 'fix' your build.

It's so wonderful that SL has become a place where you can't build what you want without self-made critics deciding for you that your build is ugly or useless.

It's disappointing that people can't create what they want in a virtual world without it being trashed mercilessly on the forums.

Were they Official FIC members? Did they have their Union Cards? Did you check their FIC licenses to make sure they were up to date? The people who were FIC while Content Creators were the Villian of the Week are not the same as the FIC this week while scriptors are the Villians.

Or were they just names you recognized and therefore decided to apply a swank little label to make your trauma more dramatic?

FIC or not, their actions were rude. Rude is not a 'secret society' trait, it's an individual character flaw. How about we leave the trendy labels in High School and just call them rude bastards?

I want to thank everyone who made suggestions in this thread. I decided that life is too short to worry about disgusting rotating cubes in the sky so will just let it go. :)

I got some goods ideas though and that is what the Forums should be all about. Thank you all again.
