Anyone playing Final Fantasy XI (online)

HAHA i take too long to post.

How's FFXI? Is it worth dusting off my PS2 for? (to be fair, it still has FF8 in it, right before The Final Climactic But Ultimately Anti-Climactic Squaresoft Style Battle due to my losing interest in plugging away at it)

right now its only for windows in us i belive

ps2 version doesn't come until next year sometime

oh god no more mmorpgs i got 40 people from collage asking me to play and right when they do i cant get the dang choccobo music out of my head......ahhhhhhhhhh its going again BAH!!

Has anyone wondered where I've been? FFXI has CONSUMED me. Don't worry, that doesn't mean I'm leaving SL. But I can't escape the game, even for a moment.

My character is currently undergoing a pilgrimage from Windhurst to San d'Oria to sell some goods that I knooow sell well there... so if you're from Windhurst then I probably won't catch up with you for a while. But don't you just love Titan? Auction houses, again, from what I've seen sell best on Titan.

If you roleplay in the game, that's a plus, too.

All of us are currently in Bastok, so if you're going to pick a starting city you may want to consider joining up there. I'm also planning on purchasing a Link Shell tonight or tomorrow for anyone that was in SL to chat, but you have to be on the same server to be a part of it.

So tell us about the game? Is the level grind not so bad? Combat better than click -> attack? Is there PvP/group vs group combat? Crafting? Class balance? Server stable?

Its bad,no,no,yes,yes,yes.

I think. You get actual numbers (vs EQs watch the bubble method). An even con solo is 100xp, grouping gives an xp bonus. Level 2 is 500xp, 3 is 750, 4 is 1000, 5 is 1250 etc. I mean it takes 750 xp to get from 2 to 3 - and that is how the numbers are shown.

The interface is taking me a little to get used to, camera controls aren't as smooth as I would like heh.

Classes are jobs and your 'level' is your level in your current job and you can switch jobs at any time. ie you can level up a white mage to level 10 then switch to a red mage and be level 1 again, switch back to white and you are level 10 with all your abilities again. At level 18 you can choose a sub class - you get their abilities plus some enhanced stats of another class you have leveled up caped at half your main level. so if you are a level 20 white mage and level 10 black mage, you can set the white mage to your main class and lvl 10 black mage as sub class. Or you can set your level 10 black mage as main and have the abilities of a lvl 5 white mage as sub class. All xp goes to main class.

Graphics are pretty nice.

Hm i think I'll give it try eventually. I'm just worried about any MMORPG that's built from the ground up to be mostly PvE. I play Dark Age of Camelot and the realm vs realm combat is what makes the game great.

My main worry though is sensing that Tarutaru's will annoy the hell out of me. I'm not much into being in a world running side by side with cutesy toons hehe.

Oh and how hard is it to get a world pass? It seems like it would suck bad if I get 8 of my friends to play along with me and end up having to wait days to get em all in there all while everyone is at different levels. I read that you can't group with people that more than 3 levels apart. I understand this is for balancing the servers but what's a guy to do if he wants to play with friends?

Plvl of course! Well it works if you can heal and buff anyway, haha. White mages and Red Mages are good for this.

The Tarutaru are cute, it's true; to paraquote BBC last night as we ran through Dangruf Wadi, "Boy, they sure didn't skrimp when they hit the Tarutaru with the cute stick." But they are realistically cute, not.. well decide for yourself.

World passes go up in price the more people their are on a server. You buy them from one person in your main city (for Bastok, it's Kachada, an old man in the Port area). First day it was about 580 gil for one.. I just paid almost 900 gil for one yesterday.

I understand your fears about PvE, Ironchef-- I loved DAoC for the RvR myself, but eventually it got old. FFXI does have plans to go PvP in the future, though to be honest I haven't researched it very much.

Overall it's really a cool game. There are some pretty spectacular flaws, but nothing that detracts from overall play (say, your equipment worn counts against your inventory total or the fact that sometimes commands done via macro don't work right or /follow doesn't always take). Nothing major, I'm sure. Probably the worst is when someone realizes they can't take on the monster they are trying to, decide to release it so someone can help them-- no one gets the experience when it dies.

I wish we were all on the same server, meh!

Edit: Ama, if it's bad, I have to wonder if you are playing a theif? ^.~ Everyone complains how evil they are to level, but they have such cool abilities!
