I'd say hang in there Joe. Repeat business and word of mouth is far more valuable than walk in traffic in the long run. It can take a while for people to stumble across your place and start coming back and bringing friends. 1800m isn't a long way. It probably takes less than 30 seconds to fly that distance. There's no place I won't go because it's too far from a hub. Have some events to get people knowing that you're there and then just be patient :)

I'm starting to think that sims surrounding a telehub sim are good -- close enough to be convenient to TP to - not skipped over when you do the teleport/fly-like-hell-to-avoid-the-lagbomb that seems to be occuring more and more.

Perhaps end-user-experience is just as important as location? I know that I loathe going to lagbombs, before I consolidated and had little interests all the place - I would dread going to some places to update products.... good thing I wasn't shopping!

Then again I also think that quality products and quality service are more important than location, market saturation, and following trends -- so what the hell do I know?

Joe, I was looking at land in Jouppi (or trying to) and you're right, it is almost impossible to get there! So difficult that many people will give up i'm sure. I can't imagine that it won't be corrected in some way soon. I hope so for you. good luck!

You know I have to say that some of the nicest people are here in SL. I appreciate all the support and to my surprise. A few people have wandered into my casino and dropped some cash. This is much appreciated, I spent a good deal of time, money, and effort in getting a beautiful location and a nice place. I'm hoping to add some free events soom, i'm thinking of maybe spades and some low payout free slot machines. There are some games that seem to be missing here in SL that are found in casino's. So I will be looking into getting those made for me.

One on topic point I forgot to mention is that the area where Jouppi is located is now connected to the southern snow sims. There's a telehub in Anzere that is still a good distance away but a straight flight. Perhaps they will add a hub to one of the new sims nearby.

Joe, on the SL feature voting page ( http://secondlife.com/vote/ ), Proposition 89 supports "pinpoint teleporting," which means you could teleport to any location you wanted without having to use a telehub. You can vote for this feature if you feel it would be a positive change.
You know what's weird is that a couple days ago, LL had taken the Havok 2 prop off the voting page, and now it's back up there again at the very top of the list. It's been widely talked about that Havok 2 is in the pipeline and SL developers (mainly Andrew, I think) are busily working on bringing it to us in a near future version. Has this changed for some reason, since it's back on that voting list? Hmmm...

Wow, I just saw that on the auction yesterday, a plot of land of 11000 k plus sold for $23 LL a meter, for $1052 US -- that's like 9 cents a meter.

That's a huge amount even for telehub land. Hyles is the second telehub to come in the new continent.

The name is an unknown (could be an alt of a baron) and they outbid Anshe.

Just goes to show you, people continue to understand the value of telehub land and pay a pretty price for it.

Yes. I so wanted a self-owned shop up to telehub... that I bid and won that parcel..along with the parcel behind it for another US$600. I know.. and realize.. I won't recover my investment, which is a given...won't profit from it. However... because it was so costly.. I will develop it somewhat..to ensure a non over powering shopping area.. selling off small plots that will be situated thoughout walkway areas.

I feel strongly... yes, land at telehubs are a good investment, and great for the retailer and also, the clients that shop... easy access. Also would say.. .when I'm not looking to shop... I also fly high..then forward... however..when I do shop..normally.. I check out telehub shops first.

Adding to this... no..not a land baron or alt to land baron's.. just a designer that had her sites on telehub shop :)

I think that's wonderful! I'm sorry you had to bid so high to get that dream. I think the economy of telehubs definitely needs diversifying away from just the top land barons all the time, to slick in a few others LOL. I know I have a mall there too and just got awfully lucky buying that land actually from a baron who hadn't woken up yet to find the telehub had been planted in his cornfield over night LOL. But I've paid my share of expensive telehub land and you're right, you don't recoup the investment (at least not instantly and not in 6 months) but you can have the satisfaction of watching a business grow and get customers.
