You folks keep forgetting that this is a Democratic initiative, not a Republican one.

Did you count me? I should count as two votes. Make it 8.

Oh, is THAT how Bush "won"? (Damnit, Bush still doesn't have 270 EVs! Grr! He hasn't won yet! (But Kerry-T3h-Wuss threw in the towel. Bah.))

I didn't forget it Grim. You assumed I 'forgot' who's pushing it.

Now all we can do is pray that Bush fucks up badly enough that the American people actually sit up and listen.

Maybe the terrorists'll attack soon. That'd wake some people up.

*sigh* I just hope the supreme court has some actual intelligent people on it, and they get rid of the Patriot Act. If they don't, America as a free nation is officially over.

What kind of asshat would pray that his president fucks up? The logic there is the most assinine thing I've ever read...no matter who is president we want them to do the best job they can.

Now your hoping that terrorists attack soon? Sorry asshat doesn't even begin to cover a fucktard statement like that....Bush didn't make the terrorists attack and if they were to do so again what do you think it will do in terms of waking people up?

Hate to tell ya Kendra, Bush had nothing to do with 9/11 it was planned way before he took office and it wasn't the first attack on the twin towers...remember 1993?.

It doesn't matter which asshat party has a president in office there are people in the world who hate Americans simply because we exist. The western world shines a light that some people want to extinguish purely because they live by ancient laws.

While I think there will be a lot of changes in the long term that give me room for concern, there are some immedite changes that will be on my radar.

Specifically, I expect to see even more redistricting to ensure Republican hold on the house. It must be said that both parties attempt to redistrict when they hold the majority, I just think Repubicans have raised it to an artform.

The other item that concerns me is the deficit. I do think that some Republicans will start standing up for more fiscal conservatism.

Homosexuals will will be punished as sinners. I must say I do look forward to that.

In other news...

Neehai is leaving the beltway. I am getting out of DC. I'm heading back down south to NC. So you bitches better be ready. NC will be blue in 2008. :)

Hate to tell ya, Talen --but you're wrong. It is the very connection that the Bush family shares with the Saudi Royals that drives thecommon people of Saudi Arabia to strike out against them.
A Bush in the Whitehouse is like a dinnerbell for the terrorists.

Oh yah --WTC '93 --I remember it well. I was there. Clinton was in office for 60 days when that happened --he had the good taste not to blame that one on HW.

People don't hate America for our freedom. They hate America for our greed.

Quite honestly, I'm a cold person. (I used to be the warmest, friendliest person on the whole damn planet, but then I got therapy.) I fully expected the 9/11 attacks. They came as no surprise to me. Unfortunately the unwashed masses of America mistakenly believe that Bush is winning the War on Terra', and it'll take something as drastic (and inevitable) as another terrorist attack to make them realize he's not.

My comment was more focused on the word "soon" rather than "attack" though. Another attack is not a question of "if", but "when".

(9/11 planning began after the failure to blow up the world trade center in 93....this comes directly from the horses mouth. The terrorist they convicted for the 93 bombing told the FBI point blank..." we won't fail the next time". Whereas Bush is hated it doesn't matter who is in office there will always be a threat.

its funny how our " greed " as you put it always come up. We don't own the worlds oil supplies and we certainly don't get cut rate prices. We've been feeding the North Korean people for decades. We send help in form of money, people, and supplies whenever there is a disaster somewhere. American and Western freedoms are what these people hate because they are finding it harder to control the masses with their bullshit when lil osama just wants a boom box. Freedom threatens everything they have worked for .

Are you serious Neehai?

Do you really believe it is the place of government to enforce religious taboos?

If so then the rule of the Taliban must have seemed right and proper. Or is it only one particular religion whose values you'd like to see enforced?

You just made my point for me. America is a nation of GREED. You obviously equate the ability to buy a "boombox" with freedom. I equate it with a cheap, intentionally disposable consumable wchich uses a disproportianate amount of raw materials comparable to it's worth.

They don't hate us because we are free. They hate us because we enslave the world in service to our un-ending appetite.

Um, interesting theory. But let's look at some of the other issues, many raised by the terrorists themselves, as to why the US "deserved" to be attacked.

1) Many innocent Iraqis dying as a result of UN sanctions
2) US military presence in Saudi Arabia
3) The whole Israel thing
4) As the French say, hyperpower
ETA: 5) Let's be honest, US realpolitik has not done the folks living there many favors

Now, I think it's safe to say that none of the above "deserve" 9/11. In fact, I think all those reasons are misguided for pretty much any action, violent or not. But those issues are damn easy to spin, and for whole populations living under less-than-free governments that economic and social progress have largely taken a detour around, mix that with increased religious rumblings, and I think the Bush-Saudi link takes a far back seat in reasons for 9/11 or any terrorist activities. Now given his first term, his continued presidency might rise on the potential justifications list, but they won't need additional conspiracy theories like yours to spin it.

I actually grew up in NC. It was a wonderful place to live.

Deep down I am still a good ole southern boy and when you're away you miss some of the social structure that comes along with that.

People knew I was a homosexual in NC and it was very live and let live. When you take the politics out of it, people are good.

Right before I left Wilmington for DC I was at a bar downtown. It was a dance club that was mostly gay. A friend of mine owned the place and lived upstairs. I went to the back of the club and when I looked down to open the door, someone had placed a gas can with a lit rag in it in front of the glass door. Opening the door moved the can.

I don't know what I was thinking, but I pushed the door open and yanked out the rag. After I realized the truly stupid thing I had done I went and alerted a few people and started walking around looking for the people who did it.

As I was walking I saw some guys in a truck that I knew from my old job (I worked at a convenience store). I flagged them down and told them what happened. This triggered CBs and a manhunt. I am not shitting you but drag queens and rednecks roaming the streets is a sight to be seen. (As a side note, don't fuck with drag queens. They are still men under there and it takes a big man to put on a dress and lipsync to Madonna. They will fuck you up.)

We eventually found the two guys laying down in the back of a truck in a parking lot. They were a couple of marines from Camp Lejeune. Lejeune is notorious for getting a lot of discipline problems there and Wilmington night clubs even had an unofficial rule that marines under a certain rank would be politely turned away at the door. Anyway, they were a couple of stupid kids out to burn some fags. Most marines were pretty cool and really good in bed.

The point was that these guys in the trucks who weren't too keen on homosexuals wasted no time in taking care of their own. Good people in NC and I am happy to be heading back.

But answer me this....how does 9/11 bring about a war in Iraq? I am still confused. Maybe it is the amount of cheese product and steriod injected meat that I eat. None the less I am still confused. I could have seen concentrating our efforts on Al Queda, I could have understood closing the borders for a bit...but a war in Iraq...sorry it escapes me.

Well Charlotte is known as the Queen City...we have a huge gay population here. So welcome back and as I said when you get in town let me know, I'll buy you dinner and a box of wine ;) . But I do travel to Wilmington alot...I have friends at Carolina Beach. So maybe I'll buy a round of oysters and a box of wine.

I don't believe it to be so, but I do believe that the current administration feels the duty to restore what they believe to be the moral fabric in this country. Homosexuality is definately on the watch list. I would not be surprised at all to see more laws introduced/passed that further erode gay Americans rights to live their life as they see fit.

Well I am going to start out in the Raleigh area and I'm not entirely sure where I will settle down.

Oh, Carolina Beach, I remember it well. Oysters, yummmm.

It reminds me of when I was young and we would go out into the bay. Back then you could take a knife with you and just reach down into the oyster bed and pry some off and eat them right there in the water.
