I can only say that i was lucky to hear of this disaster from SL forum, seeing your reply as first thing, rinaz. I know that Singapore wasn't touched too much, but if i had happened to hear these news from radio or tv, i wouldn't have been able to breathe until i could be sure you were fine...

Even so, i feel really bad for what happened. Every single life is the most precious thing in the world... And events like this one are horrible.

As of a few minutes ago, CNN is reporting nearly 10,000 dead so far, mostly in India and Sri Lanka. This is really horrible :( I have several friends in India, including one who just moved back there a few weeks ago that I have been unable to reach. :(

That's awful and catastrophic. :(

No currently known method of humans can prevent such tragedies.

It is so devastating -- and shocking.

Events like these are terrible indeed. After the earthquake in Iran a few years ago that killed a lot of people, most were crushed after mud structures collapsed on them. My dad was inspired to stop events like these by engineering low cost housing that would not be as deadly in natural disasters. A lot of the people who died in Indonesia were probably in houses that collapsed after the quake trapping people inside. But, most of the casualties came from the tsunamis that formed which is incredibly difficult if not impossible to prevent. Hopefully, more will be done in the future will be done to prevent loss of life from natural disasters.

Its up to at least 22,000 now and millions homeless. Officials in that area are now saying that they failed to issue broad public warnings after the earthquake and that some had no equipment to detect tidal waves.

The waves were felt as far away as Somalia, where about 4,500 have died.

'THE PLANET IS VIBRATING': 9.0 quake disturbs Earth's rotation.

This is a massive tragedy that caught everyone affected by surprise. Please consider a donation to the Red Cross or other relief agency.

Terrifying. One of our City Councilmen was in Thailand on Phuket Island. His family heard from him tonight and he is fine, but it was kind of tense for a while. My prayers are with all the people who are effected by this tragedy.

Selador,

I spoke with both of my friends in India this morning, and both are fine - neither lived near the affected areas. Thank you for your concern. :)
