you could always go see a AHL or UHL or the other leagues play.
The AHL team near me is much more fun to watch than the nearby NHL team. |

Yes. It sucks.
No Vancouver fans trolling the Minnesota Wild forums makes me sad. I never thought I would say this, but I miss those cocky bastards. Not to mention winter without hockey is like a bird with no feathers. _____________________

camille,
the nhl is already so watered down compared to my childhood days. AHL can be exciting at times. so can a nicely matched peewee game. but they don't display the skill level that puts you in awe. _____________________

NHL as we know it is DEAD forever. Look for a long, long strike that really hurts both sides and a lot of teams to be contracted once they finally settle this mess.

Bettman sucks btw, I came to that realization after the Jets and Nordiques went down the tubes.

Last I heard, they had come to some kind of agreement. But that was last week.
Just keep your stick on the ice Wu. It'll be ok. _____________________

even though it's a lockout, in this situation, i blame the players.
profit sharing and salary caps have worked beautifully in the NFL. it is the best way to maintain competitive small market teams. but overall, i blame gary bettman. i liked hockey when it was arounr 20-24 teams, mostly located in HOCKEY PLAYING areas. what the hell! Dallas has a team, and Winnipeg doesn't! what @#$@#^%@^ profesional sports suck the bag. i had already stopped watching professional hockey that much. but this is the biggest turn off. it is this same crap that turned me completely off to baseball 10 years ago _____________________

That ass Norm Greene STOLE the North Stars. That, after he promised he wouldn't. I couldn't believe it. the state that hosts the US Hockey Hall of Fame without an NHL team! Thankfully we have the Wild now, although they can never replace the North Stars. _____________________

is your winter ruined like mine is? this sucks! We will just have to start a SLHL. If Wu coaches the Eastern All-Stars I will certainly consider coaching the Western All-Stars. (fumbles thru closet for skates, shin pads, jock-strap, whistle, etc.) _____________________

Personally, Hockey lost it's luster for me when Peter Puck went the way of the dinosaur.
![]() ![]() Obituary: Peter Puck R.I.P We are sorry to report that Peter Puck passed away recently after a long and tragic life. Mr. Puck is survived by his wife Patricia and their three offspring, Paul, Pedro, and Pricilla. Services are pending. Puck spent his younger years being battered and bruised on various hockey rinks across the land, a typical existence for hockey pucks of his generation. In 1974 he was catapulted into national prominence when NBC hired Puck to help promote their television broadcasts of National Hockey League games in the United States. Unfortunately the NBC hockey telecasts were a failure, so after a brief moment in the national spotlight Puck's television career was over in the U.S. He then made several appearances on Canadian television, but that soon ended and Puck subsequently endured many years of unemployment. During this period he became an outspoken advocate for hockey pucks rights. He traveled from coast to coast giving lectures on the subject, but his pleas generally fell on deaf years. Towards the end of his life Mr. Puck, who was never the same after his fling at superstardom, spent most of his time wandering from one hockey rink to another, and began hitting the bottle. Apparently the memories of his celebrity status as well those of the battering he took as a young puck all seemed to catch up with him and Mr. Puck became yet another tragic victim of hockey puck abuse. _____________________

I'm not a hockey fan but as a general sports fan this does really suck. This could very well be the end of the NHL. Lots and lots of money will and has been lost for organizations and arenas. Not to mention all the people who work under them. It's going to be tough for any organization to come out of this alive.

On a similar note, has anyone seen the movie Slapshot? (circa 1979?) My brother rented it once and although it focused on hockey way too much for my liking, it was REALLY funny. I think it's one of those culty kind of flicks. Might be something for you hockey freaks to watch in the meantime.

I think it's one of those culty kind of flicks. Might be something for you hockey freaks to watch in the meantime. Oh yes. The Hanson brothers were the shit. Very funny flick. Paul Newman stepped out of his typical roles to play a foul mouthed conniver and it came off brilliantly. His wardrobe made me laugh in and of itself. To me it was obvious that the writer(s)/director(s) had some insight to what hockey is like for the players, there's no other way to explain most of the dialogue. Whenever I see Slapshot I am reminded of the days when my uncle played minor league hockey for the St. Paul Saints. I was allowed to sit right behind the team and got to go into the locker rooom on many occasions. Slapshot , although a bit exaggerated, captures that essence. Bring back the Goons! _____________________

"Towards the end of his life Mr. Puck, who was never the same after his fling at superstardom, spent most of his time wandering from one hockey rink to another, and began hitting the bottle." Thanks so much for your endearing tribute to P.P. Nol. Act. a good thing he was hitting the bottle, cause he sure couldn't hit the NET! BB _____________________
