If Vertical Response was up to any odd hyjinx, or their information was simply compromised, might that explain a sudden explosion of e-mail that includes my mailing address, full name, and other such things in the subject line?

My e-mail account was never super clean to begin with, just
that's a definite trend now in much of the spam I receive.

My mail filter is one of those exclusive dealies that only puts letters from the Safe List in the main folder, so I did have to fish out a valid letter from LL having to do with my land use. However, I'm either still not signed up for the news letter or it's perhaps being blocked at a different level.

holiday spam bump
01-05-2004 08:06
don forget around christmas time (leadin though most of december really) theres always a bit of a push to get out as much spam as possible... if yer really concerned about that sort of thing.. its probably time to look into using disposable email addresses.... most of the big mail providers can do them now, and i've found if spam is THAT big an issue to you, its probably worth an extra $5 to $10 to ensure ya can go through addresses like candy

I need the actual email addresses they will be sending "From", as from the sample emails people have posted it looks like they change them every time. It would be nice if they kept something consistent.

I don't have actual machine addresses, but VR says to scan for vresp.com or verticalresponse.com. While this might allow spammers pretending to be them to get through, so far that doesn't seem to have been an issue.

Hopefully I can whitelist on an address even if RBL'd. Is there any chance LL will be sending out a 'test' email or atleast a mass email soon so we can see how many users actually do receive them?

I know I always get the ones sent directly from LL, but I don't believe i've ever received one of the 'newsletter' type emails.

A few weeks ago, I sprinkled the email addresses we give to VR with a few special email accounts used exclusively to detect abuse. Those accounts exclusively accumulated spam from the email provider, and not a single piece of external email other than the newsletter arrived.

My assessment is that VR almost certainly does not divulge email addresses.

Excellent. Unfortunately, i've already bounced enough email from them to where I don't get any more. Is there any way for you guys to fix this? I can't whitelist them until I can see where they're sending from (the 3 or so emails I bounced from them were all random From: addresses, none of them matched each other).

So how do we get email addresses re-added to the list? I haven't seen them attempt an email to me since the first couple bounces.

We've discovered that many of the emails we send (e.g. confirmation mails) to Yahoo, AOL and Hotmail accounts get bounced to junk folders and overlooked.

So one option is to make sure that either you don't use a mail address with one of those ISPs, or that you check your junk mail folder before deleting.

Also, please make sure that we have a current mail address for you. To do that, log in to your Account Summary page under Your Account, and choose Change Email. If it's current no problem. If not, then you can update it.

No, I don't even see attempts coming in to the mail server, client folders aside. I run my own mail servers, so it seems they don't even attempt to send them anymore. My email address is correct.
