If Vertical Response was up to any odd hyjinx, or their information was simply compromised, might that explain a sudden explosion of e-mail that includes my mailing address, full name, and other such things in the subject line?
My e-mail account was never super clean to begin with, just that's a definite trend now in much of the spam I receive.
My mail filter is one of those exclusive dealies that only puts letters from the Safe List in the main folder, so I did have to fish out a valid letter from LL having to do with my land use. However, I'm either still not signed up for the news letter or it's perhaps being blocked at a different level.

holiday spam bump
01-05-2004 08:06
don forget around christmas time (leadin though most of december really) theres always a bit of a push to get out as much spam as possible... if yer really concerned about that sort of thing.. its probably time to look into using disposable email addresses.... most of the big mail providers can do them now, and i've found if spam is THAT big an issue to you, its probably worth an extra $5 to $10 to ensure ya can go through addresses like candy

From: someone I need the actual email addresses they will be sending "From", as from the sample emails people have posted it looks like they change them every time. It would be nice if they kept something consistent. I don't have actual machine addresses, but VR says to scan for vresp.com or verticalresponse.com. While this might allow spammers pretending to be them to get through, so far that doesn't seem to have been an issue.

Is there any chance LL will be sending out a 'test' email or atleast a mass email soon so we can see how many users actually do receive them? I know I always get the ones sent directly from LL, but I don't believe i've ever received one of the 'newsletter' type emails.

A few weeks ago, I sprinkled the email addresses we give to VR with a few special email accounts used exclusively to detect abuse. Those accounts exclusively accumulated spam from the email provider, and not a single piece of external email other than the newsletter arrived.
My assessment is that VR almost certainly does not divulge email addresses.

Is there any way for you guys to fix this? I can't whitelist them until I can see where they're sending from (the 3 or so emails I bounced from them were all random From: addresses, none of them matched each other).

I just heard back from Vertical Response and they've given us the following information:
1. the from header should be: LindenLab@mail.vresp.com
2. the IP addresses that can be whitelisted include: Server Name IP Address mkt1.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.149 mkt2.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.150 mkt3.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.152 mkt4.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.137 mkt5.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.160 mkt6.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.161 mkt7.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.162 mkt8.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.163 mkt9.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.164 mkt10.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.165 mkt11.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.166 mkt12.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.167 mkt13.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.168 mkt14.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.169 mkt15.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.170 mkt16.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.171 mkt17.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.172 mkt18.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.173 mkt19.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.174 mkt20.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.175 mkt21.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.176 mkt22.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.177 mkt23.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.178 mkt24.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.179 mkt25.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.180 outbound.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.157 www2.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.139 www1.verticalresponse.com 65.60.34.130 a.mkt01.com 65.60.34.221 a.mkt02.com 65.60.34.222 a.mkt03.com 65.60.34.223 a.mkt04.com 65.60.34.224 a.mkt05.com 65.60.34.225 a.mkt06.com 65.60.34.226 a.mkt07.com 65.60.34.227 a.mkt08.com 65.60.34.228 b.mkt01.com 65.60.34.229 b.mkt02.com 65.60.34.230 b.mkt03.com 65.60.34.231 b.mkt04.com 65.60.34.232 b.mkt05.com 65.60.34.233 b.mkt06.com 65.60.34.234 b.mkt07.com 65.60.34.235 b.mkt08.com 65.60.34.236 c.mkt01.com 65.60.34.237 c.mkt02.com 65.60.34.238 c.mkt03.com 65.60.34.239 c.mkt04.com 65.60.34.240 c.mkt05.com 65.60.34.241 c.mkt06.com 65.60.34.242 c.mkt07.com 65.60.34.243 c.mkt08.com 65.60.34.244

Excellent, for those who use postfix and need a whitelist for it 65.60.34.149 OK 65.60.34.150 OK 65.60.34.152 OK 65.60.34.137 OK 65.60.34.160 OK 65.60.34.161 OK 65.60.34.162 OK 65.60.34.163 OK 65.60.34.164 OK 65.60.34.165 OK 65.60.34.166 OK 65.60.34.167 OK 65.60.34.168 OK 65.60.34.169 OK 65.60.34.170 OK 65.60.34.171 OK 65.60.34.172 OK 65.60.34.173 OK 65.60.34.174 OK 65.60.34.175 OK 65.60.34.176 OK 65.60.34.177 OK 65.60.34.178 OK 65.60.34.179 OK 65.60.34.180 OK 65.60.34.157 OK 65.60.34.139 OK 65.60.34.130 OK 65.60.34.221 OK 65.60.34.222 OK 65.60.34.223 OK 65.60.34.224 OK 65.60.34.225 OK 65.60.34.226 OK 65.60.34.227 OK 65.60.34.228 OK 65.60.34.229 OK 65.60.34.230 OK 65.60.34.231 OK 65.60.34.232 OK 65.60.34.233 OK 65.60.34.234 OK 65.60.34.235 OK 65.60.34.236 OK 65.60.34.237 OK 65.60.34.238 OK 65.60.34.239 OK 65.60.34.240 OK 65.60.34.241 OK 65.60.34.242 OK 65.60.34.243 OK 65.60.34.244 OK
So how do we get email addresses re-added to the list? I haven't seen them attempt an email to me since the first couple bounces.

We've discovered that many of the emails we send (e.g. confirmation mails) to Yahoo, AOL and Hotmail accounts get bounced to junk folders and overlooked.
So one option is to make sure that either you don't use a mail address with one of those ISPs, or that you check your junk mail folder before deleting.
Also, please make sure that we have a current mail address for you. To do that, log in to your Account Summary page under Your Account, and choose Change Email. If it's current no problem. If not, then you can update it.
