Who won the Island?

They said they were gonna announce on the Second life site on May 28th who won the Island, did I miss it? I'm sure it was a favorite. Well maybe the Lindens can tell about it.

We have selected a winner. They were notified via email on May 27th. They have 7 days (by Monday, June 1) to respond. If we don't hear from them by then, we will select another winner, who will again have 7 days to claim the prize.

Once a winner is confirmed, I'll post their name and info in Annoucements.

In the meantime, I highly recommend everyone check their email.

W8 Tanya........I never got the email on the rates and such about SL going live....also many others didn't either....So the winner could be waiting for the email and never get it then get passed up

Tanya, can you tell us if it was an SL'er or an E3'er?

I just won a computer on a site I had an outdated email with. If they had done this strategy I would have lost the computer, instead they posted on the main site and I was able to claim it (whew).

That said, I do recieve the SL emails when they come so I'm guess it isn't me.

Would it be possible to notify the winner via PM too? I miss stuff in my hotmail box all the time, and sometimes the junk filters zap things into trash.

Maybe you can send out emails to all of us saying you DIDNT win? Forum PM would also be good.

Good point misnomer. I was unaware that somebody that didn't play the game could win land in it. Hmm.

It'll be the first noob that will ever say, "what do I do with all this land?".

I have to agree with Tcoz. If the winner is on the forum (had like, over 2 posts) they should get a PM over forum or IM in-game.

I lost lots of linden e-mail and I still do because I can't find the place to change my e-mail...

To be honest, if the winner WAS an E3 attendee, and didn't like or even really see SL, you'll never see them here. They'll be using that brand new computer to play the other games that were at that booth that they did like (like Quake 3 or even Half-Life 2).

A E3 attendee's reaction to winning would be "Cool! I have a new computer. Oh, I get an island in this game? Who cares, I have a kick butt system to play Unreal Tounament 2003 with".

An SLer's winning reaction would most likely be, "I have a new computer... now I can turn up the draw distance and texture detail and not have to worry about it... now, what am I going to build on this island?".

Just some food for thought.

Alexis, are you suggesting that we select our winner in a fashion other than randomly, as required by various state laws and stipulated in the giveaway rules?

I think he/she was suggesting that the E3'ers should never have been let into the contest.

I think the whole point of the contest was to Build Buzz at E3, to get people to stop and talk about SL for a while in exchange for a chance to win a computer & island. It was just a nice footnote that they let us current players enter on the weeb. Thanks LL!

Obviously WAY to late for this, but two drawings would have been nice. One for the e3 folks, the computer, and one for the players, the island.

Perhaps it's a graphics card in a fashionable carrying case.

Our first winner failed to respond within the required 7 days, so they have been disqualified.

We have randomly selected a new winner, who was notified today by email. Again, they have 7 days to respond - by next Tuesday, June 10. Once we have a confirmed winner, I will post their info here.

Make sure to check your email. It's the email address you would have used to enter the sweepstakes. If you were a current SL resident at the time you entered the contest, it's the email you gave us as part of SL account.

Thanks, Tanya. For those of us who are obsessively going through all our filtered mail folders and trash folders on every email account we've had for the past few years, could you tell us what email address the notication is coming *from*. It will make the hours ahead of obsessive searching just a bit easier.
