I hate the ratings system.

I hate the new forum names.

Too many people are blocking the waterways.

The fog annoys me, it does weird things after a while when I turn it off, and it doesn't stay off.

I hate getting shot at or bumped around, and when I neg behavior, I get triple negged back.

I hate how when I sit down after changing appearance, I get popped back out of my seat.

I hate that "Feature Suggestions" is buried a level deep now, but "Rants" is right on top.

I hate how the forums lose my "New Posts", and that I can't just simply sort the "last 100 topics" by date.

I hate ghosting.

I hate how crossing sim borders often causes my attachments to get lost.

I hate how my attachments get deynced, forcing me to relog.

I hate waiting for the progress meter when logging in, even though it's obvious I'm already in-world.

I hate how changing some display options requires a complete re-login and inventory-redownload.

Often when I teleport to a telehub in the air, when I get down to the ground, I'm persistently crouching.

Why can't I mute sounds from specific people?

I'm quite unhappy we don't have a default command channel.

Well, this is just a short list... I'll add more when I have more time...

I hate all those too, ghosting especialy... and...

I hate land barons and anyone who prices land at something like 6000000000000, you know what that does? Nothing except clutter up the For Sale find window. If your not going to sell it, stop doing that. LL needs to put SOME limit in that Sell dialog, who will EVER have THAT much money?

I hate that I'm tired and can't think of other things I hate but know there are some.

Well, they created a whole forum for it, so why not?

And it's apparently more important than "Feature Suggestions", which is now buried... So I guess I'll set up camp here for a while.

A few more things that bug me:

The Function Keys map to rude and annoying gestures by default, instead of friendly or neutral ones, so newbies are always going around spamming "Boo!" and "Get Lost!". Why not default to something more positive like a laugh or a wave? Preferably something that doesn't spam the chat area.

It is difficult to "grab" to grab a single rotational circle so that I can rotate something on just one axis. The color change is so subtle and the grab area is so small.

When I close my edit window, it moves the camera.

When I go to move an attachment just slightly and forgot Snap to Grid is still on. When do people ever use snap to grid on a worn attachment?

Why can I edit objects to 5 decimal places of precision using script, but I can't do so using the edit panel?

Temporary on Rez is still broke in no-script zones. What's the point of this feature again?

We have to map gestures to make silent commands convenient, which means when I explain to someone how to use a command, that command gets replaced in my chat text. For example, I tell someone "type /calc 2 + 2" and it comes out as "type /1calc 2 + 2"

We still don't have self-lit textures

Why can't I turn off local lighting without restarting? Why not just simulate all light sources as not being light sources?

There is no form of persistent data storage whatsoever.

It's annoying to try to quickly select text in the edit window by click-dragging when you accidently click down on the edit panel itself and wind up dragging the whole panel over. Why is the middle of the panel a drag handle? I could see the edges being so, but not the middle.

The grid options dialog is not quickly accessible with an intuitive keystroke: Shift+Ctrl+B? Considering how often I have to change it, this seems like an obscure keyboard combo.

The Mini-Map opens the big map when you click it, but does not close the big map when you click it the second time.

Ctrl+G opens gestures, but pressing it again does not close them.

With all the changes to the forums, there's still no obvious link to the User Control Panel. It's just a static link, it's not like there needs to be code changes to put it in.

This is all there is to it:

Top Picks now exclude Mature regions all together. How is this good? I commented and suggested how there was no notification that Mature areas in the Top Picks were actualy in Mature areas... instead of adding it in the description or a check box for it, Mature areas are now completely excluded from Top Picks.

Again... filtering out Mature content by default is NOT good when it was even pointed out that most of the Top Picks that were Mature could be placed in a PG sim with no problem.

I hate all the things Kex mentioned and then some.

I hate prim limits but I also hate lag, so I hate having to choose the happy medium.

I hate watching my audio durations debug display light up like a Christmas tree playing ambient sounds that are barely audible while the sim stays at a frustrating, pathetic 50 FPS.

I hate inefficient freebie scripts that people jam into objects left and right. Sometimes people will throw 5 one-purpose scripts into one object just to have 5 different effects running, where one script could do the job. Please please please get a friend to help you keep your objects efficient.

I hate when people use sound on anything other than vehicles, and I especially hate being FORCED to download and listen to songs just because I'm standing in an area that has one queued up. And no, shutting off my audio ISN'T an acceptable workaround.

I hate scripts that are chatty for no reason other than to "look cool" or advertise products/services when used at events/gatherings. Turn off your radio spammer or "Wonderous Jabbering Lightsaber v1.0032 ARMED AND READY" when you're around people. You're not cool. I mean it, you're not cool.

I hate memory leaks and memory hogs. SL is/has both.

I hate our object permissions system. It's not flexible enough and it breaks too easily.

I hate our "get_permissions" system. Couple it with our kludgy llSitTarget and screwed up animations and you've conjured up my rendition of hell.

I hate the fact that there are no alternative options for wrapping a texture around objects that have round surfaces. I don't always want my texture stretched, pincushioned, fish-eye distorted, or barrel distorted. In fact, I almost never want my texture stretched or distorted. Yeah, it can be done.

I really hate the way objects that overlap create bleeding textures. You should be able to assign a priority to one over another.

Sometimes I like prim-based building, and other times I hate it with a passion.

I hate the fact that groups have to have a minimum of 3 people in them.

Is it really necessary to jerk my camera around like that?

IM text that shows up in my general chat area should default to A DIFFERENT COLOR and/or should have its own color settings. And while we're at it, I'd like the option NOT to have IM text show up in my general chat area. Just a flashing IM button will do, please. And I'd also like to be able to change the sound of incoming IMs easily. Or shut it off completely. You get the idea - there's lots of things missing from IM communication.

I hate radio station spam on my group channels.

31 prim limit on physical objects. I think we covered that one. :)

Link distance - also covered, but it's a major frustration.

Flying is too touchy and the camera is too slow to respond to it. I think maybe flying needs its own key instead of piggy-backing on the jump key. As it stands, I have to guesstimate how long to hold the key down so that I fly and yet do not smack the roof of my workshop. I usually guess wrong, even though my workshop's ceiling is a good 20 feet up.

Also, I'd like a light keytap to move me a few inches instead of the 1-meter minimum we seem to have. Baby steps getting on the elevator...baby steps standing next to a friend...baby steps walking to the edge of the pier (splash!).

Baby steps flying over to a friend (bonk). Movement is just way too touchy when flying. The slightest tap sends you careening.

I hate having to log back in simply because the servers have somehow "lost" me, causing teleports not to work for me.

I hate the fact that I made something, sold it to someone, and then cannot modify it for them later because they now own it. Even having them give it back to me doesn't fix the problem. I have to give that person a new object. Why can't we set our own objects as modifiable by us after a sale? Maybe as something the new owner can turn on/off with a simple checkmark?

I hate the fact that boats/cars/planes cost $500 or less (and are sometimes free). I hope that by the time vehicles are actually useful this will change. Maybe if, for each purchase of a vehicle, the creator had to pay a "materials" fee proportionate to the size of the vehicle sold, we'd have a more realistic cost balance. I dunno, but $500 airplanes just don't exist in the real world.

I hate clogged waterways.

I hate cool, awesome, blow-your-socks-off vehicles with horrible, frustrating, practically unusable scripts.

I hate not having true I/O between SL and the rest of the world. At the very least I would like to have web functionality inside SL, like certain other pioneering virtual worlds we won't name.

I hate it when my arm twists around into obviously impossible positions. I also hate headbanging. I hate that my gaze follows my mouse when I don't want it to and doesn't when I do want it to. There's nothing more embarrassing than realizing you've been staring at someone for 5 minutes while you've been blissfully assuming you were looking at something else (because you were).

I hate it when people who are obviously not old enough to be in SL come up to me and fire guns at me, make annoying vomit/fart/choking sounds/animations, bump me or push me around, make immature/rude/obscene comments, demand that I help them...the list goes on.

That's my list for today. I'm sure I've left a ton out.

Ooh ooh I wanna rant too!

That @?#!'ing bug in the script compiler that forces me to relog about 100 times to write one script!

ATI bug. Need I say mo -- (froze ;) )

GHOSTING! I live on the edge of a sim and there are so many av ghosts just floating all around. Half of them are seated since they were in a vehicle, the other half are still in the flying pose. The WORST thing is they are still moving, so it's wicked eerie. (doo dooo doo doo...)

Push guns in the welcome area.

Push guns in Cordova.

Push guns in (aw heck, just push guns in general!)

Inventory download! Oh sorry you want to give me something? Can't. My inventory is still downloading. Why doesn't it just request folder names and then download the folder of inventory when you open it?

The Whatever Giver script I bought stopped working in 1.3.x! Grr! (I need one for a notecard on my property, anyone able to help me out?)

I guess that's it. My list isn't as long as Kex's :) I'm mostly content but these things really bug me in SL. Hope they get fixed!

(Hey Kex maybe you should strike "the new forum names" off your list since this forum makes you so happy now! :D)

You know what i hate?

i hate the fact that LL almost never actually makes a change *OPTIONAL* for anyone who may be affected by it. Just about every in game change from the female avatar sit to the scripting inconsistancies and flip flops has been pushed across the whole world... and only after *significant* and prolonged arguments and discussions with eachother and with LL does a half-hearted optional workaround that should have been there BEFORE the feature was ever pushed to release actually get implemented.

Thats my #1 hate and it covers about 50% of all of the other rants that i could possibly make so i'll just leave them out

Other than that the biggest problem i have is with *USERS* and not LL. *WAY* too many times we have had to go to the same people, with the same problems and argue with them over the same stupid amount of time to get them to stop doing something that was *HORRIBLY* bad for the server

On that note i also *HATE* people, smart people.. who make some fantastically complicated and cool, but *very* expensive lag wise effects... and then let people who are NOT nearly as tech-savy have them.

Look okay if yer smart enough to know something's taxing the system.. you should be smart enough to know that if you let anyone random have one, chances are they *ARE* going to tax the system and cause all kinds of grief for all kinds of people... theres no excuse for this kind of behavior... and theres also no excuse for bring 'suprised' or 'upset' if i neg rate you because johnny newbie ressed 17 of your jukeboxes on his little 200sqm plot.

I'm not negging you for *MAKING* the things... im negging you for doing the SL equivalent of handing a loaded gun to a 5 year old and saying 'here this is cool, go play with it' and btw i *WILL* remove the neg if you talk with the people abusin the stuff you made and get them to understand why abusin them is bad

on the note of players i also really hate the large number of all of you who feel 'entitled' to something or other because yer you, and yer special, an that means you should get whatever you want... i got news for ya... we're *ALL* pretty damn special and if yer whining and complaining that you got spanked for doing something OBVIOUSLY wrong, yer a good deal less special than the rest of us

phew... okay... thats enough.. have fun guys

I can help you with that, Taun. Actually you might be able to find one in the Script Forum or the Script Library. If you don't find it there, I'll drop you one when I'm online. (Don't forget to remind me... my memory isn't what it used to be :(... at least I *think* it isn't what it used to be. I honestly can't remember what it used to be.)

*strikes new forum names off list* =P

I hate the delay with llInstantMessage(llGetOwner(),...). Why can't we have a way to get feedback text from our scripts without a delay, and without everyone else nearby within whisper distance being spammed?

I don't like that the welcome area (the most social place in SL) is no-script and no-build. Doesn't autodelete make no-build moot? And what's the no-script thing about? It's not stopping the clowns over at the shooting gallery from shooting at us...

Could we get an option to NOT have rotations (as shown in the edit panel) re-normalized as we change them?

I wish the Stage 4 screen would not spam when clicked on (send an instant message!). It'd also be nice if mentors could disable it.

I wish the south-west seating corner of Stage 4 did not spam when clicked on. It's not even consistent, shouldn't they all do it, or none of them do it? And if they do have to send a message, have it use llInstantMessage().

Changes to the LSL API without a warning announcement nor even noted in the change log.

Sensors are limited to only 15 results, and sporadically pick up people on the other side of the sim.

Why does everyone have weird looking webbed toes?

We need softlinks for clothes.

In LSL, there's no way to detect if land is Autodelete.

Why is unauctioned land always no-build and no-script? Why can't it just have an autodelete of 5 or so mins? And what are scripts hurting?

The positioning and alignment of some of the infrastructure in the urban sims needs some tweaking. More than one person has mentioned infrastructure prims which are overlapping purchased land as well (and therefore taking away from prim count). I see z-order flickering going on in some places, and others where things aren't exactly aligned.

Bump mapping is so ugly and jittery as to be useless.

In LSL, there's no way to detect if an object or land is owned by a group, nor a way to retrieve the name of the group.

I wish the Lindens would at least post an "ok" or "we're looking into it" or "thanks for the suggestions" or "that idea sucks" on the Feature Suggestions forum at least every once in a while to give some kind of indication that all the effort we put into posting there is actually being read and/or possibly being passed on to people who will consider the idea.

Oh, and the rating system needs overhauled.

Amen, sister.

Lindens, whatever school of game design you went to, when they told you it's ok to take features away, well, they lied. When they told you it's ok to change features that no one is complaining about, and not make it optional, another lie.

Rule 1: Never ever take something away. If you make a nice shiny new fun one that's great, but leave the old one too. Especially when it's a tiny little portable animation file that lives client side and doesn't clog your servers.

I'm not a game developer so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but, if you make a new "sit" animation, and the code still uses "sit" as the default name to use, why not CTRL-C then CTRL-V the old sit animation and rename it "sit_old". That might take ten seconds and bloat the client installer by a whole 5kb.

Just out of curiosity... If someone had an old SL installer laying around, could they install it to some new folder, copy out the old sit animation and rename it like that, then reference the new name via their scripts? I bet you could. I don't think other people would see it since they wouldn't have that file but if they did... Maybe someone needs to test that and if it works start distributing those deprecated animations to people again.

WOW! Some great rants / suggestions here by most! I am glad they at least brought the Feature Suggestions Forum back onto the main page. That was just crazy to bury it so deeply like that.

And I agree that a post with a list of: yes, no, maybe, or noted (at the very least) would be posted in the Feature Suggestion Forums by the Lindens so we at least know if they have read a topic or not. :p

Keep the feature rants coming! :)

I'm adding a few:

ATI card graphics with large textures within large builds and the display corruption.

ATI card graphics corruption with large groups of people. (I still don't go to large events.)

Simple lag when flying over Sims that are not in your cache.

Losing the airboat (*cries*) and having it go off world, never to be found in the Lost & Found.

Display loss (sinking view on your screen) when boating. It's corrected by retouching a movement key, but it's the loss of concentration when "driving." Needless to say, I don't need any distractions, thank you. I crash enough as it is. :)

Change in the camera when you're building and you close out of the edit mode.

James Miller for not taking the ball and running with these former "feature suggestions" and keeping them on top of the Linden list. Whatcha say, Senator? :)

Newbies who are in the airboat's way when going 50, and their attachments cause me to fly across the Sim after I hit them. :)

Builds in the waterways. I've spent more time of late "editing" the boat and removing it from large docks, patio's, sunporches, rooftops (okay, so rooftops are NOT in the waterways..., don't ask me how I got there...) than actually "boating."

Bad, bad cybersex that can be heard by others. I mean, COME ON, is that a "thing" or a "thigh"? Is that a "spankle" or a "spank"? I vote for a cybersex spell checker! Linden's -- PLEASE -- save someone's sex life and my sanity! :)

Audio file downloads that are picked up while boating in one sim that never, EVER, finish downloading. I've had as high as 400 incoming audio files; the only way to stop them is to log off and back online. At least, get some GOOD music.

People who try to steal the code/texture/object just "because they can."

All of Kex's comments above. Great list, Kex!

Oh wait I have another one... the forum text size is soooo darn small, and there's no preference you can set to make it bigger! It's really annoying to have to kick the text size up all the time. I vote everyone writes using this size, or LL adds a preference to the user control panel (which totally needs a button or SOMETHING) :D
