Well its not the myth that creates the division and resentment, it is the reactions of the various players to one another's posts. For me, I take none of the seriously. I no more beleive you a snob than I beleive Prokofy is an insane slavering idiot. I measure the quality of a person by what I know of them and not what I hear about them. For me, the forums are blustering and posturing and full of hot air. As I said, one small disagreement brings catcalls of idiocy from the rafters of the forum. Such shoe pounding should be taken with a grain of salt.

The only way a myth is devisive is is you let it be. And in truth many people are snobs and don't let themselves have the decency to admit it. I am. But then i am courteous too, and try to be as quick with a compliment as I am with a barb.

You're reading way too much into it. Calling it an interesting myth was more polite than saying "it's a load of delusional paranoid bullshit"

I love the word cabal, thank you for using it. I shall now refer to myself as having a cabal modem, since that is what I connect to SL with.

Just as stereotypes always have some basis in truth (they are often painted from an aggregate of the most perceived negative attributes of a group), even a myth often has some foundation in truth - at least the rough outlines.

In any society, online or off, you have people who rise up in the ranks of various segments of that society. You have celebrities, you have leaders, you have villains, saints and sinners. There is an establishment in SL, there are celebrities and well known personalities. Many people are fascinated by celebrity

Prokofy's posts might be taken as funny, witty, or biting satire if the same themes were not in every single thread, on every single topic, ad nauseum. Familiarity breeds contempt, and Prokofy has been quite the master breeder. No one in these forums has singlehandedly produced so much loathing, and that is an accomplishment.

Ironically, he has become a celebrity in his own right, and it dawned on me. None of it is about fighting anything - it is about promoting his land business. It has been well played - people know what Ravenwhatever is, and who Prokofy is. Nice ride out of obscurity on the Erin Brokovitch ticket. Unoriginal, but then Prokofy has never been accused of originality (only the contrary).

May I suggest that seeing the same posts saying the same themes about his posts, ad nauseum, in one thread after another, also gets tiring? Cause it does.

The thing is, I don't start threads about Prokofy. Prokofy will interject himself and this garbage into any thread, any time, it doesn't matter the topic. It would be nice if it were just a discussion, but ultimately, it is something always the same.

Reporting requires facts and sources -- the absence of these suggests not so much reporting - more "making shit up"

I am willing to take responsibility for my part in it. I keep Prokofy on ignore, which has made my forum experience less stressful. I selectively read posts here and there, or come across his posts in quotes from others. I realized awhile ago there is no point in disupting most of what he says, because even when presented with concise, undisputable facts, he still manages to dodge them with paragraphs of drivel instead of just saying "Ok, I'm wrong". Have you ever seen Prokofy own up to a mistake? No. When I make them, I am willing to own up to them, as are you, I have seen.

I have generally stopped posting about Prokofy, and have never been one to start threads about him anyway. I can control my reaction to him - as I have said, I actually do agree with Prokofy at times and even find some of it humorous. It is the sheer volume of it and the vitriolic nature of a lot of it that is damaging, and why you are seeing such a profound, consistent response to it. Everyone is in control of their own reaction - I just wish more focus would go onto admonishing the shit stirrer, not the stirred.

BTW, personally I have nothing against you - I like your posts, even when I disagree with them.
