As many of you are probably already aware, lilone is my "SO" in r/l. I have been blessed with the opportunity to meet the people in her group at work, and they truly are an amazing bunch. I used to go in once a week, bringing them donuts, and making them all coffee. Their eyes light up and their faces beam when they are treated with dignity and respect, and their humanity is recognized.

Second Life truly has expanded and enhanced their world, and it can only get better with the generous help of all of you.

I'll let lilone speak for her crew, but I'm sure that they are all eternally grateful.

Same here if you find out let us all know. Perhaps one of us should contact Dell or IBM's PR department. They donate to schools all the time. If nothing else they may do matching funds.

From: Salazar Jack
Here is a number for Apple Computer's Disability Support. Second Life also runs on Mac OS X. Perhaps they might be an avenue for you for a grant or donation of some kind?

I'd like to lift some copies of the postings in this thread (esp. lilone's of course), in the event I need to email them somewhere.

I'll contact the Lindens in-game to see what their concerns are, but I thought it advisable to mention here, in case anyone has any objections.

I'll wait a couple of days for feedback (and check with the Lindens) before I copy anything. It'll give me some time to see what might be done with Isis' and Salazar's suggestions.

dang it I can't send you a private message :(

You are an incredible person lilone. The things that you do both in-world and out-world humble me *bows low*. I would really like to help Wilde in any way I can. I have lots of SL toys I never use that I would happily give, and anything I create is theirs at no cost, but don't worry I'll find you and Wilde in-world ;)

There is one other part to this. One of the many things I do in RL is I build computers and would happily do so for Wilde. For about 400 USD, I can create a PC that's top-notch (this is hardware cost ONLY as I wouldn't charge anything for shipping or labor). I also have many parts and pieces lying around, so in the least I would happily send some your way ;) Please let me know how I can help =D

This is the Second Life community at its best. Thanks so much to everyone for their generous offers and support for Lilone and Wilde.

Higbee, if you need parts let us know. We have computer pieces all over the place. Not to mention various video cards from ATI and nVidia. Maybe I can come up with something that you might be able to use.

If anyone decides to call Apple or Intel, again, let me know. There are people there we work with every day. Perhaps they'll have advice or ideas about how we might move things along a little faster.

I would like to see more threads like this, that emphasize the beauty of a human being and of human beings when we come together. And that point the way towards the light that SL is when it becomes such an empowering outlet for those with difficulties expressing themselves and reaching out to other humans about their thoughts + feelings. I am really, really touched. :)

To the top.

Where the star on the tree is. :D

Turns out a friend of a friend may have some goodies from Apple...Got a call in today so keep your fingers crossed. It may just be matching dollar for dollar since that goes over better with the powers that be. I'll have more info in the next few days.

Good going Yoshi :) And again all my friends irl are so excited about this that they are considering signing onto sl just to see what is going on. The awesome folks of Wilde have contributed to SL in many ways it seems.

you guys STILL rock~
12-02-2004 02:20
which is how i began this entire thread, with a big heart felt thank you for all you SLers were doing! i dont think we see how easy it is to touch or encourage another person. sooo full of potential, so much good can be done with ease. you all have floored me! hope you see how powerful each of you are!! you are amazing~

hmmm... as to idea of building a strong pc for wilde from quality parts, i will have to resubit the idea to wilde today when we have our daily second life planning discussion. i had asked them about that as well as a donated computer a few days ago and they seemed commited to saving up for it. obviously they were growing a new sense of pride at being able to do so- and i never want to over persuade them to do anything. for them its almost like being born again to have such an equal playing field as others. to be free to actually do what they dream of doing. to be able to make plans which rl has a hard time messing up on them.

there was a concern about having someone to fix it if it broke down. our primary IT man rarely feels we are worth his time to come and fix our broken hardware. sadly, those kind of things fall to me the resident IT geek. and i'm NOT much of a geek haha!! its like a ten year old helping a 3 year old. heh. thats a sad and funny story when folks come to me for computer help!! hey we can only be expected to offer what we have. once again its the little things that sometimes make the biggest difference (or so i tell myself to stay encouraged and not faint from their bigness-heh)

when i represent to them i'll point out the saving cash aspect of it a lil more. and i'll get back to you on the responce. if we have a split vote we will revote after a day or two. i like them to call their own shots. too many folk have taken that away from them historically. so i'll educate, we'll discuss, then they'll vote. (=

the passion behind the offer is so beautiful! you guys dont know all the good that is inside of you! i'm so proud of you!! second life can bring out the best in people... more freedom to be the good they wanta be. you guys are a powerful force! ty ty ty

Lilone, thank you for bringing a little sunshine, optimism and good news to the forums and SL! It makes me realize, as a pesimist, that it is not all bad and there are still good people out there.

We need it!

Though I'm rarely on the forums, this is a great string. The potential of SL never ceases to amaze me, and more often than not, the quality of our community always manages to shine on through.

I plan on coming by for a visit and hopefully come to meet the "Wilde" crew! :D

lilone,

Can we get an update on this?

I (finally) got the (perfectly understandable) message that these folks would like to do some or all of this for themselves, so I backed off a bit, as I think others may have done.

update~ such a big word (=
12-11-2004 15:49
sure yoshi (=

if i seem rusty, i'm not the best forum person (= what exactly do ya wanta update on? feel free to shoot questions or direct me as i'm really not sure what your looking for.

my most logical guess is the progress on the computer?? without knowing exactly what the gom market will do and with its recent drop, we are about 2/3's the way there i think. somewhere close to that anywho. thats without checking since friday am. they are talking about getting a larger monitor after the computer so more folk can see the monitor at one time, or at least see better from the second row (= someone suggested a double monitor system which is a bit over my head but would manage to figure it out or drag the real it guy down to set it up.

having a workable computer means things like being able to tp to places in the find menu (going to events, exploring), and iming folks without their cards (because they dropped us a note), being able to take pix without crashing, not typing at a reduced speed, and not haveing a bar almost all red most of the time. (= normal user friendly things like that. (=

but while not having a computer which plays sl well is slower and occassionally frustrating, its not the focus of their game play. i mean, its not their purpose to play just to have a new computer (= they are slowly exploring and slowly aquiring sl experiences even without the fluff of normal stuff. their lives are being changed here on many fronts. i lack words to share how much. i wish the word could get out for others also.

and as i began this thread early on with a word of the warmest heartfelt thanks to the residents here, i have to say it again... you guys rock! you stun and floor me! your hearts are so warm looking for ways to let it out!

wilde is always looking to say hi to folks when they come on. so if you like join their group called friends of friends which is open (= they'll drop an open hello into that group and who knows where it will go from there~

may the joy they experience here be spread on and on and on

lilone

ummm... if i didnt cover what you were lookin for yoshi, (= please ask me again~

wilde had their first interview this past week. hamlet spent some quality time with them and should be releasing some mysterious write up this next week. (=

let me know if you have other questions~

lets make a difference

Another testament to the Godliness of Second Life. We take simple things like talking, eating, and kissing for granted; we really have no clue how important those everyday actions are until they are gone... For those living in Hell on Earth, Second Life offers a glimpse of light through the darkness. I offer an arrant wink to those who, like me, know first-hand what I'm talking about.
Thanks Linden Lab

This thread needs more eyes on it. Far more than do a lot of the silly argument threads.
