The Linden Dollar was once above US$5.00 for L$1000. Its now around US$3.70 for L$1000. A 26% drop in the currency's valuation. I donno about you, but I'm running for the hills before its down 50% and more.

Hasn't said phenomenon taught anything to our generation who studied it in History class? Hm? Neph, I was going to answer something similar to your own post even before I had read the contents of this thread. If there's one thing that WILL create "panic", it's very likely this ton of "OMG the L$ is dropping we're DOOMED sell sell quiiiick OMGWTFBBQ!!!one!" posts we've seen since... what, this morning? Yesterday evening at the earliest? Chill out, guys. Yeah the value has dropped, and then ? You honestly think that panicking other people (thus causing them to sell right now in fear they'll get less precious $ if they wait.. thus causing things to go down the drain even more!), will make anything go better? The problem with all of these millions of posts claiming a crash is they are mostly by people who've only been here during the inflated price bubble and they assumed that those were normal prices for both land and L$.
Just like Land had a bubble where the prices went insane for a few months that has now eased back closer to long term "normal" prices, you can see on the six month chart that this "crash" is really just a return to normal L$ value before the big bubble we had in late summer. I'm sure as soon as we get a new wave of players from some advertising or free media blitz (afterall they've got to put that $8 million to good use somehow) we'll see a new bubble and prices will shoot up again as all the new people try to buy land and L$ at once. |

The real question is why alts of the same person keep perpetrating these lame threads? You know what I have noticed? A surge in sales volume over the past two days, presumably because more people can afford L$. This is a good thing, even if it does not translate to increased cash on GOM for me, which is not my motivation anyway. If you looked as SL as a financial investment or a get rich quick scheme, you are simply getting exactly what you deserve.

i likea the crash. cheap land is fun stuff. i only wish this happened the month before i joined and my group bought land hehe. now maybe my dumbass neighbor who's selling 512 meters for L$10,000 will finally take my generous offer of L$7 a square meter before the land ends up worthless. you want to take a 60% loss on that lil plot or a 90% loss?
edit: forgot my whole point. i'm not an economist but the L$ being worth less compared to the RL$ means the L$ is worth more in sl right? like if land prices are dropping it's the same as if L$ value is rising. now i can buy more with my L$. uh....isn't that a good thing for the 99.9% of sl who buys things? dur. good for the ones who sell too cause this means people can buy more and the money they pay you with has more value. KEEP DROPPING MR. GOM! hehe. |
