It's not that bad! I used to survive in SF not five years ago on $34,500 with hundreds of square feet!

And if you hook up with someone with a rent controlled apartment, you can probably live on less.

$34,500 and sharing an apartment might be fine for you... But I gotta have plenty of space for the ladies.. And their wine and dine cost $$$.. :)

Fark - if thats all they wanted, and of course I had *ANY* inclination to go back to the computer industry I'd consider applying.... that would make someone a nice lil 'starter' job.

Siggy.

And here I am in Spokane, living on about that much, with my own downtown apartment, and I'm able to put almost half my income into savings.

Yeah, If I lived in Spokane, I'd be getting driven to work in a limo everyday... Try living on $34k in places like SanFran, NewYork, WashingtonDC, Chicago, etc and you'll soon find out that your income is on par with the Trash Man.

Now if LL allows its workers to Telecommute from across the globe, then hell.. Hook me up and then I'm moving to India where on $34k/yr I'll be the richest man in town. A palace on par with the Taj and servants feeding me dinner as if I was a Roman Emperor. hehehehe

Hell... I'm suprised LL isn't offshoring some work to India for pennies on the dollar and passing those cost savings onto its members in the form of lower land tier charges.

Who needs money in San Francisco?

It is all about peace and love dude!

If you're going to San Francicso
Be sure to wear
Some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet
Some gentle people there

Spoken like a goddamn genius. I've been living in Chicago for the past couple years on mid 50's and its not so easy. I need to get into law school - thats where the real money is. Fark man... why do lawyers make so much?

Half your pre-tax income or after-tax income? If its pre-tax, you're incredible! Assuming a tax blend of 25%, and saving $17,500 per year on after tax income of $25,875 - which means you're able to live on only $8,300 per year. Kudos to you, big boy!

Actually, the better tax method is to just claim 5,6,7+ exemptions on your W-4 so you pay less taxes throughout ther year and get a larger paycheck. Then when you file and your tax bill is due, you offset the amount you Owe Uncle Sam with the Interest Deduction on the Mortgage you've been paying for your house.

I'm not sure what my tax rate will be -- this is the first year that I've made enough to actually pay income taxes. In the past, I've gotten my entire income tax back as a refund. Also, Washington doesn't have a state income tax, and most of my expenses aren't subject to the sales tax.

As for where Spokane is, it's the other city in Washington state.
