From: Yatima Meiji I know good and well where they are, they are here in the forums. But why can’t I find them in SL? That’s a problem I would like to address. I think there should be a public forum held within SL, a place where my fellow philosophers can meet and think out loud and enjoy the benefits of discussing their ideas in public and not on text. I guess you can say I’m thinking back to the days of the Greeks and of Aristotle and Plato and all the other great philosophers.
YO YATIMA! Well, a very merry welcome to SL to ya. That's some great stuff there -- ya know on Digifolks there is an ancient GrecoRoman theatre of sorts? I think it will be used to present digicultural events of sorts in the not-so-distant future, but when you mention those philosophers, it takes me back to the movie BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE and... SO-CRATES!!! That's right... I felt like it was such an awesome film on how it mixed that deep theme and connection of friendship with the laugh-out-loud humor. That's the sort of bond I get in here -- I've gone to many a philosophical meeting inworld. For me, I enjoy it up to a point, but too often it comes down to redundant points like "it all comes down to the individual" or a bunch of contradictory proverbs, which are my favorite. Also important to know, as I'm sure you do, this is a road that keeps going on and never ends. For every point, there's a counterpoint, and that sort of thing. But the greater thing for me is having made some good friends in those places who I can have a good chuckle with afterwards as we bounce our Ben-Gos (an SL word for "pogo stick" towards the sunset or dump a misaligned cluster of geometrically-borked pyramids into a sandbox which spinning at Clubel (a dreadful horror). So we get the seriousness of high intellectuality (whatever I can aspire towards it, anyhoo) and the jovial joshing about that comes with really being like a CHILD in here again. That's diversity, and it's beautiful...... From: someone But like I said before, I am new to this world. My eyes are like a child, bright and shining with idealism, yet to be shown any harsh reality of this place.
That's poetry in motion!!! AWESOME!!! *clapclapclap* Hey I've been here over 7 months now (my gosh I never knew I'd say that, but here I am)... and I still see the world this way. There's been some harsh stuff but it all pales diminutively in comparison to what's good. Enjoy your Second Life day by day!

From: David Valentino As far as regular discussion groups go, the one at Perilous Pleasures every Wednesday evening at 6pm (game time) is the most interesting, heated and fun I've seen, though the topic is somewhat narrow, being a D/s lifestyle thing. Ohhhhh I wish that was some other night! My Master is never ever on Wed nights. Sounds like a fun discussion group to check out.

Yatima, what time zone are you in? I offer to throw you an official "welcome to SL party" at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday night. Maybe 7 pm game time? We'll see if we can fill up your friends list. I'll post a sign up sheet for the pot-luck.

Wow thats nice! I'm in the central time zone. I've been wondering that myself, exactly how does time work in SL?

Game time is based on Pacific time. I'm central time zone too and that threw me off the first few days.

From: Yatima Meiji In such a free society that SL enjoys, where are the thinkers? if you like what someone has to say in the forums, im them. if you hang out with them, you're likely to meet more people you like wrt to thinking.
