Neither, furs aren't real people. They can't have emotions.

From: Michi Lumin A large amount of people in SL who wear funny hats agree with you. I'm part of W-hat and I am a fur as well. Maybe I should of noted my sarcasm since some people around here don't know of such a word.

It is principally a form for me rather than an outer layer ... think shapeshifting ... and taking on a little of the nature associated with that form. I have a lot of furry/scaly avies and some I do equip just for 'fun' or more generally for experiencing the way the subtle persona of that form makes me feel and focusses my mind in a certain way. You could of course argue that this is an extension of choosing an outfit to suit a mood I suppose.... A certain very few forms however, I relate to on a closer, deeper level, and as these I do feel wholly metamorphosed. In fact, my whole experience in SL is heightened in these forms as I feel even more free and liberated, and 'tuned in' to certain aspects of myself. When some guy asked me to 'take off the costume sweetie' the other day whilst shopping in furry form, I actually found myself to be pretty deeply offended... SL is my 'vehicle' for experiencing these forms...I'm certainly not the real life fur-suit type, though I did once try to squeeze myself into a lioness costume for a fancy dress trolley push and was oddly disappointed when I wouldn't fit

From: Dee Firefly When some guy asked me to 'take off the costume sweetie' the other day whilst shopping in furry form, I actually found myself to be pretty deeply offended... As would I! Quite apart from the fact that yes, he's making an assumption about the nature of your avatar - 'girl to be condescended to in suit' - no one has the right, possibly with the exception of Lindens under extreme circumstances, to tell you or even ask you to change your avatar! No, not even a paranoid mall owner who is afraid you're lagging everyone up. I think my reply would have been rather rude had it been me

Clearly this thread discriminates against mechanized life forms. Yeah, I can imagine Kris ! As it was I simply found it offensive-but-amusing, coming as it did after the familiar old line 'I've just bought a set of those poseballs and I really need someone to help me test them' I might even have indulged the poor dear for a laugh, had he not then followed up with the aforementioned foot-in-mouth furry faux-pas ! Ahh, must be the shops I hang out in
