I would love to see a large, Linden made hang out. Right now the welcome areas are sort of filling this role, but it gets laggy, and as several people have pointed out in other threads, residents seem to use it as place to voice their personal gripes about things. The Welcome Area is not the place for this, in my opinion.
The world has doubled in size since I got here only 7 months ago, possibly trippled. I'm feeling increasingly cut off from people because of the sheer size of the grid. Players have made clubs and other hang outs, but clubs lag me unfortunately and I feel uncomfortable hanging out on other people's land that isn't cleary "public space". It would be great to have a place to go.. maybe something that looks like a pub, or lounge, something kind of casual that was built by LL.
What do you guys think?

From: Ingrid Ingersoll I'm at work.. if you know something I don't.. PLEASE POST PICS! After work, go home, pull up SL and go peek into where Stage Four used to be. :> Dunno if this is gonna be an official build but.... WOW, it's beautiful. Sort of a 40's era open air coffee shop meets '20's era train station... almost looks like an aviary (which tickles me pink!). With stone walkways and a huge garden-ey courtyard with a fountain :> I'd post pics but now I'm stuck at work too.

Very cool. I described it as turn-of-the-century industrial age meets art nouveau.

From: Mia Jackson Ooooooh I wanna go see!!! But where exactly would that be? The old "Stage 4" and the new plaza are at the four corners where Dore, Bonafacio, Morris, and Ahern meet ( link into SL). The advantage of having a gathering place at four corners is that you can have four sims worth of people all within talking and viewing distance of each other. I've posted a not wonderful snapshot of the work in progress on Snapzilla at sluniverse.com. First, it does look like it will be lovely. Second, even Linden builders put guides down when building complex geometries (makes *me* feel better ).

From: Ingrid Ingersoll interesting! player made?! Could be. His profiile says that he is here working on a project and to not bug him. lol Here is a photo of where Stage Four used to be. The fountain is right at the intersection of the four sims. You can see the trolly stop offf in the distance.

I always thought the old welcome area was kinda cold and uninviting. I'll miss stage 4, I suppose, but the new courtyard is much beter.

I sure hope the roof is phantom. A telehub you can't fly from is a pain, no matter how good it looks (and this one does)

It's so pretty...Wish I could build like that! I am curious as to what the prim count for it is, tho.... EDIT: Wanted to add the comment that while this might defuse some people who use the Welcome Area as a place to gripe; it won't stop the people who seem to gather there to intimidate new players. It'll be nice to have a beautiful Welcome Area...but if we still have people trashing the place up with tons of particles, overly flashy bling, crass language, etc...all it's going to end up being is the best looking Metro Bus Station ever.

From: Candide LeMay I sure hope the roof is phantom. A telehub you can't fly from is a pain, no matter how good it looks (and this one does) I didn't get the impression that the actual telehub had been placed yet. There wasn't any structure I could see that indicated the location of one. I agree. I've had enough of bumping my head at the Miramare and Waterhead (?)/Hidden Lakes hubs to last a second lifetime. Heya Lindens/Mr. Alexander: please place the telehub so that one can walk or fly from it easily. Roofless. Thanks! p.s. Come to think of it... there is a BIG red pushpin where (I believe) the old telehub beam-in pads used to be. It's up on a hill just a short walk from the where this new construction is going on around the old Stage 4 area. Perhaps that is where the telehub will be/remain?

What do you guys think? If you haven't tried this, here is a great way to see a list of many public gathering places in Second Life -- all built by residents, for residents. Click the Find button. Click the Places tab. Choose "Gathering Place" in the Category pop up/drop dowm menu. Click the Search button. Lots of cool places to meet up with friends.

Very impressive. Really great texture work. I can't wait to see it in person! Looks like I'll have to add another resident to my 'favorite builders' list!
