Just on pure architectural grounds I had to see if that was really what it looked like. Okay, so that was a construction photo. Here is a view of the completed structure which is still neo-brutalistic junk - in my untrained opinion. But it isn't quite as bad as the build in progress (athough I think a nice plywood texture would have improved it).

I would have preferred it look more like the SL Public Library. And yes, instead of a big-ass dragon resting on its haunches on the top, there could be an ambulatory cigar with a sax head. Grrreat.

polshek and olcott are quite a contraversy. is it just coincidence that during clinton's years this firm from arkansas received three or four very prominient very lucrative institution contracts? one of them, the native american museum for the smithsonian, they were pushed in by the insitution to build the winning design of another architect (who was not paid). a native architect no less.

here's a birds eye view rendering i found. despite some hackery, it is a prominent american firm.

i think this building is pretty good! based on their body of work, i'm sure polshek and olcott probably designed great deatils and interiors that you can't see from one photo. they aren't trend setters but they are great executers.

it's tough to realize when you are looking at good architecture in north america because we are so used to looking and cheap nostalgic crap.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots.
