I'd just like to make the point that as a consumer, I NEVER... repeat NEVER look at any of the content around a telehub. NEVER. Telehubs are a nuisance and that's all. As soon as I rez at a telehub, I /roam to my destination. Before I got my hands on a ROAM unit, I would just fly straight up to 150+ meter and then fly to my destination, never once looking at the buildings or objects around the telehub. Those of you that think a telehub makes your property more valuable, I'd say you ought to reevaluate. I'd offer the suggestion that telehub proximity makes land far LESS valuable. I paid premium $L to purchase land that was as far from a telehub as possible, and as far from any direct route from a telehub to a popular locale as possible. It sure is nice having relative privacy, not much lag and no huge ugly boxes all around me. Ditto - no offense to the owers/proprieters of telehub malls I just fly past them (or up) as soon and I teleport in. I roam and will stop to shop if I see a nice, unique or interesting place - we need more of those!! |

My first thought is to quote Judge Smails from Caddyshack -- "You'll get nothing and like it!"
The answer is 'no' LL owes nothing. How many times have creators been adversely affected by changes in the program? How much compensation has LL provided to those people? I would guess none however if that has happened I'd be interested in knowing the circumstances. |

I am in the camp that says risk = risk, not guarantees.
If we start compensating Tom, Dick, and Harry, every time LL makes feature changes, adds a feature, or removes one, we will be in a world of hurt. There is no possible fair means by which to set criteria for who gets compensated for what and how much. The land barons fought the name title "land baron" for a good period of time, and wanted to be called "speculators". Well, live with the results that come with the title... _____________________

No. Not unless they're first going to compensate everyone else whose land lost value to due the release of new land, or a Linden controlled change in their landscape.

No, unless they compensate every individual who has lost sales thanks to the content exploit last month.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with the general sentiment - to ask Linden Lab to start compensating for losses incurred due to changes in the way the platform works would result in a never-ending pile of claims. There can be no guarantees that actions taken for the overall improvement of this world will never cause disruption of existing services or scenarios.

No, That's the hazzard of doing buisness is things change. The world of buiness is chocked full of examples of changes that has hurt buisness. The plant that closes and take most of the dinners from a resturant across the street with it. A new interstate is opened and the old road is obsolete. No one compensates thease people for their loss. If people in Second Life want to run a real business with real money they have to be willing to accept real risk and loss as well.

Is there a technical limitation against making a wide swath of land with P2P TPing and no telehubs?
Seems like a place like Island Sandbox, you can TP anywhere onto there, so if they just amplified that across a few sims, we could at least experiment with something new (and old at the same time) and have the "legacy" sims unaffected. _____________________

no because anyone who buys land has a high chance that it will go down in value. Whether that be because of ugly nasty builds, a high lag club next door, or change the the teleporting system. If they get money back, I want some back for the 5 different plots I've had that I lost on because of the high lag of neighbors.
