I'm a big fan of sour candy. I don't eat it very often, but I really like it a lot. This thread got me to wondering, what's the best sour candy? I have tried a few different ones but most are terrible. This past week I tried Jolly Rancher Screamin Sours and they were laughably not sour. They were about as "screamin sour" as candy orange slices. Please post your favorites and rate them 1-10 in sourness. 1 being candy orange slice sour and 10 being suck a lemon sour. Oh, and as a bonus, what is the term you use to describe the expression of saliva that can sometimes embarrassingly escape your mouth when eating something sour? I use the term "ying". Asking another friend they call it "glick".

Definitely an 8 out of 10 if you put 8 of them in your mouth at once.

gotta second that Warheads endorsement. they are the sourest you can get without chugging some acid. they look like moth balls and it only takes 2 to leave the roof of your mouth hanging in shreds.
look for the package with a cartoon guy's head imploding from sourness. prolly green wrapping but i've seen purple (grape?). they make sour patch kids look like um...... not-even-a-little-bit-sour-in-the-least patch kids. they hurt so good.
my friends always called that saliva thing "gleeking".

I call it "gleeking" also.
Just the thought of Warheads made me salivate...

Shocktarts. I'd give them an 8 or 9 on the gleekability scale. Wonderfully painful candy.

I used to get Astro Belts when I was a kid.. fulla sugar.. about a 7
My nephews came round a while ago with some kind of sour ball they dared me to eat, I couldn't. It hurt my jaw the moment it touched down.. that was a 15 on the sour scale.

The sour Nerds candy did it for me. It only works if I fill my mouth with it though. It lasted for a minute or so, but I'd salivate faster than that. And then when I thought it was all done, I'd start chewing it, and it's there all over again. Made my teeth ache.
Gleekability: 8 (but must fill the mouth with it)

hmm. I always thought gleeking was when spit came out through your front teeth, intentionally or otherwise.
Warheads (14) are more sour than shocktarts (9), but i think flavor matters just as much as sourness. old fashioned fruit flavored hard candy is less sour than today's new stuff, but i think it makes up for it's lack of relative tartness in actual flavor.
As with everything I type, this is simply my opinion and NOT a fact, no matter how undeniably correct and brilliant it is.

I agree with Panda; Warheads. The initial intense sour taste is beyond any other sour candy I have ever tried. Addictive too. My fave flavor is Blue Raspberry. Panda, they do still exist - made by the aptly named "Impact Confections" company. Here is the website. They even have a store locator! http://www.warheads.com/

Your mission now is to find out what it was.

I just bought some Altoids Citrus Sours, and they just about make my face turn insideout, but it wears off too quickly.

Well, since Misnomer inappropriately titled this thread "best sour candy" when she meant "sourest sour candy", evidently, thus infuriating me, I would advise her to glance as this page for a good sampling. The alien meteorites are very very sour.

The food is probably correct, but if Everclear is the strongest alcohol, then it's definitely NOT the best. Rubbing alcohol, anyone?

I am a big fan of sour candies - my two favorites would be Cry Baby Tears ( and Sour Skittles (6). I'm also fond of Sour Patch Kids (5)

Since I know how terribly important this is to everyones existance, I'm posting an update.
Sour Patch Kids I'm afraid, are not very sour. I have completed a taste test and they rate about a 6 to me. The "I ate glass" sensation is caused, in my opinion, by extra sharp sugar they use on it. I'm not sure what that is.. microscopic rock candy sugar or what, but it sure is pokey.
I'm still hunting down WarHeads, the store locator sent me somewhere that didnt have them. I'm also on the lookout for Shocktarts, Sour Nerds, Alien Meteorites and Cry Baby Tears.
My Current top sour candy at this moment are Wonka SweetTart Shockers. When I locate the ones listed (or other entries I havent tried) I will post and rate them.

You should be able to find warheads at your friendly corporate job-stealing no-insurance providing bastard super store, such as W*lm*rt, T*rg*t, etc. I get them there all the time while i'm contributing to keeping the human condition generally miserable.

From: Misnomer Jones Oh, and as a bonus, what is the term you use to describe the expression of saliva that can sometimes embarrassingly escape your mouth when eating something sour? I use the term "ying". Asking another friend they call it "glick". I call that 'gleeking', myself. It's caused by pressure being applied to your sublingual salivary gland (the one under your tongue). I can pretty much do that at will... my very own integrated squirt gun. It's great for keeping people from touching you. There used to be this gum, called 'Tear-Jerkers' I think. Round, hollow gum-balls, all innocuous looking. Someone handed me one once (during an RPG session) and I foolishly popped it in my mouth... then promptly fell out of my chair and under the table! I would've given those an 11 on your scale, I think, 'cause even lemons aren't that sour!
