That should piss off some folks, as religion brings in more of tomorrow's youth to ensure the Liberals don't succeed in their quest to destory Family Values and Morality. Rolling Stones Accept Bible Ad PDF of the Ad in Question Other media outlets that agreed to carry the ad include Modern Bride, The Onion, MTV.com and AOL, Lockhart said. AOL, like CNN.com, is a unit of Time Warner

Dollars to donuts The Onion is running the ad because its more ironic and humorous than anything they could come up with on their own.

If it gets people to think and accept what makes sense to them, great. Hope it works.

From: Spider Mandala hunh? I'm just looking for a point to this post. I mean... I don't usually post what I had for breakfast, so why are we hearing about an ad that's going to appear in some magazine?

I don't see a problem with magazines running ads for fiction books. I think I saw a John Grisham book advertised once as well. Frankly, I found that more offensive as no one should be subjected to a John Grisham book.

There's a new translation of the Bible?
A question: I am a time traveller. So "Today's New International Version" is really yesterday's, to me... which makes it make less sense.
How long is it before someone photoshops this ad to apply to the forums?
Oh, I'm so confused. :\

"The world's leading provider of bibles" eh? Am I the only one here who's never heard of this company?

I am somewhat familiar with them.
I am, however, more familiar with the GIDEON CORPORATION. As found in hotels everywhere.
^that's what they're called in my timeline, it might be different here

From: Torley Torgeson I am somewhat familiar with them. Maybe it's just another American company that doesn't believe there's a world outside the states then. As found in hotels everywhere. ^that's what they're called in my timeline, it might be different here Ah, those... yes well, there's not a lot to say about that really. Over here they give out half-bibles, leaving out the older parts. Rather pointless as the New Testament is rather pointless without all the history leading up to it. (for those who are about to jump in and say it's not real etc... well, that's rather unimportant to my point... )

Zondervan sounds more like a new prescription drug to control acid reflux than a company making bibles.

And in other news, Time Magazine accepts Toyota advertisement. Ron Gillespie, V.P. advertising was quoted at the announcement, "Toyota had money, we're a magazine, how do you think we pay the bills?".

From: Alby Yellowknife I take the 5th... HEheheh... If your a liberal, it'll be difficult to translate this Code. Coud it be something like lemme rub your nose in this so as to foment even more strife and division between believers and non-believers? In reality, I think this is another fine example of targeted marketing. A common complaint is that previous English translations of the Bible are difficult to understand, so a number of paraphrase and/or modern-language versions of the Bible have been produced, over the years (The Living Bible and The Message come to mind). It would seem to me that Zondervan has chosen to advertise in media outlets where the demographics indicate less familiarity with the Bible -- massive conspiracy going on there! And Zondervan has been around for quite some time. It is most renowned as the publisher of the New International Version (NIV) of the English Bible. It also owns a chain of Christian bookstores -- Family Christian Stores/Bookstores. A few years back, Zondervan was the subject of much controversy when it was acquired by secular HarperCollins.

I don't care so much that it's an advertisement for some bible, what I object to is the WORDING of the ad itself! "In a world of almost endless media noise and political spin, you wonder where you can find real truth. Well now there’s a source that’s accurate, clear, and reliable. It’s the TNIV—Today’s New International Version of the Bible. It’s written in today’s language, for today’s times—and it makes more sense than ever.
For more information or to see Zondervan’s complete line of TNIV Bibles, visit www.TNIV.com." Accurate, clear and reliable??? HUH? For what exactly??? First of all, how many versions of the Bible are there anyway? Hundreds? Thousands? LOL And what the hell does the Bible have to do with "media noise and political spin"? What idiot wrote this ad, and what idiot decided it was worth publishing? Don't make me laugh! I hope the folks at Rolling Stone got a nice wad of cash from those people at least! From: Neehai Zapata I don't see a problem with magazines running ads for fiction books. I think I saw a John Grisham book advertised once as well. Frankly, I found that more offensive as no one should be subjected to a John Grisham book. LOL Well said Neehai! Except that this work of fiction is being advertised as "real truth"! :: rolls eyes and goes back to reading more forums :: Arti

It actually makes pretty decent sense if you are the target audience, which would be receptive younger adults. There have been numerous versions of the Bible, however, if you were to talk to a theologian, many would be quick to point out that many of these versions were not true to the original text. That tends to happen when you are translating from aramaic. It is widely believed that the King James Version is pretty innacurate. There are many who are claiming that this new version is inaccurate as well, as it 'modernizes' the language used through the text to make it more relevent and have a greater impact than previous versions. Supposidly the actually message of each verse hasn't changed, but I have yet to see a copy of this version, so I couldn't tell you. Pretty much, choice of Bible version coems down to personal preference and church traditions. Whether you say it's fictional or not, the Bible has played a defining role in the shaping of our society. Considering how many copies are circulating out there and how long its been in existance, a few revisions or updates to the language is inevitible. Otherwise we'd all have to be fluent in either greek, aramaic, or latin.
