Yeah, abuse reporting may be a little extreme.. but there are definately some repeat offenders... especially clubs that essentially put little "for sale" boxes next to the dance floor (requiring you to enter the club) and selling freebies.

To me, thats just a ruse for advertising their club, and they should know better.

I've taken my case to the highest court of the land... in the hopes that King Philip will listen and curb this epidemic which is sweeping SL.

This flagrant event abuse is upsetting, annoying, and just plain illegal! Why can't it be stopped?!

It's gotten to the point I dont even look at the events anymore.

I haven't looked at the events list since mid-2004. I used to look at top picks; but have only perused the ad spots once. The leader boards were fun to browse when I was little. Do we still have those?

Real yard sales
05-10-2005 19:51
Having had one real, as in items I bought and do not use any more or am over my prim limit, it bothers me that most yard sale events seem to be ongoing. I went to one which list almost everyday that "buys" items as well before I had my own yard sale and was more than disappointed at the offer that was made me for my things, most of which came from skys store and were lovely but primful as heck. I was told to think of this as a type of "pawnbroker" , which accounted for the low offer made.
I then went and put the things , not all of them out at my home. I sold nothing i got free, having a major issue with that myself.
I plan to have one more as I am selling my land, i have moved now many times in my almost year of sl and have bought and bought.
I am all for yard sales, there is no auction like in there.com but I refuse to be painted along with some who are doing "yard sales" as a business.
Please keep in mind some of us in sl actually might be honest..***god a radical concept, giggles** :)

Well that's an obvious abuse. Gotta go on a case by case basis of course, which sucks for LL. It's not like they can easily create an entire judicial branch of the company... :D

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I can go one better.

Yesterday we bought land on our sim from under a guy who was doing a 'Yard Sale'

His one purpose was to lag the sim out so someone would buy his land.

Everything he was selling was either from LL own library or stolen from other people.

So what did we do? Yes we called a Linden.

'Sorry there's nothing I can do'

So we had to buy this jerk out to get rid of him, even tho he was ripping off other people's work and even though we had evidence he does this all over SL and even though we called in some of the creators who were NOT pleased their stuff was ripped off.

His name is Kevn Klein just so you know.

Bogus Yard Sales
05-11-2005 05:12
As the founder of the group YARD SALE JUNKIES, I try to check every morning to see if there are any REAL yard sales advertised and then IM group members of my find. I think it's absolutely fair and square for a person to resell original items they no longer have a use for and I personally have gotten some great deals at YARD SALES.

Unfortunately for the many, there are always a few who spoil things for everyone and I have been to a few bogus yard sales. Fortunately I become familiar with them and who holds them and stay away.

For those of you in the YARD SALE JUNKIES group, please remember you can post about your yard sale under the Yard Sale Junkies group forum. If I find that 'abusers' are members of the Group I will start deleting them :( Sad to have to go to extremes but as I said, there will always be a few who will spoil a good thing for others.

I think somebody's idea about defining events as something where "a host must be present" is probably a pretty good solution.

coco

Interesting idea. Something like:

"The event will only be listed in the events listing for the two hours period prior to the event if the host of the event is online, or in the case of group land, an officer of the group. The event will be removed from the listing after the event has started when the land owner is no longer online, or the no officers are online."

Still, kinda complicated, but interesting.

I believe there IS something that can be done... maybe not about his "store" but if he is abusing the event system, then I would think he would be subject to penalty.
