City of Heroes (Beta)

Really? I knew they did Lineage too, and that was supposed to be good, so... Figured CoH had a chance.

Is there going to be a public "everyone gets in" beta? Whine, whine, whine? It doesn't look like it to me. Whine, whine, whine. But I don't wanna blow fifty bucks on the box unless I'm SURE.

actualy it's in "open" beta. but what they mean by open is only who they invite (doesn't that mean closed to you, LOL).

I was lucky enough to be one of thouse people. theres a wipe 4 days before release and all us betas get a 4 day start before relese.

I've actually been beta testing it for about a month now, and I can tell you that the game is AWESOME. It's a lot better than everquest, AC, or any of those power-leveling MMORPGS. While you do end up leveling up, there are many different things you can do to level up, mostly fighting bad guys, and doing missions and stuff. Teaming up with others can also be really fun, because it's great to see how many different combinations of Archetypes you can get. Right now, i'm playing as a Natural Scrapper (think wolverine minus the claws), with Martial Arts. The powers are fun to see the different combo's you can come up with, even though i've had a few complaints about scrappers (mostly about enemies running away, and scrappers have no ranged attacks, so it's sometimes hard to take down bad guys while they're running), but overall the game is awesome. Attached is a picture of Rikaru, my scrapper.

If NC is running COH anything like they are doing in the beta for Lineage 2, I want nothing to do with it.

How are they running the Lineage 2 beta. I haven't been too focused on anything recently except for school and COH (and SL every once in a while ), but the COH beta has been good. Lots of convo's about the game on the boards, not many bugs anymore, and there's always someone around to help. I don't think it's NCsoft that is in charge of the Beta for COH, it's cryptic, and they are doing an awesome job at it. The game in my eyes is ready for shipping, even though there are a few minor bugs, but nothing really major. And just for kicks, since the NDA was lifted, here's another screenshot . It's called praying to the god of Jose Borgan. After a patch, all science players got the mission, take the data to Jose Borgan. But Jose Borgan didn't want the data, so we were stuck. So this was a group of us praying to him to allow us to finish our mission .

Trust me it not being run AT ALL like L2

they are both owned by NCSoft but L2 is actually being run in korea, and CoH is being run here in america. and that Korean team doesn't know jack squat about servers it seems.
but Coh is just fine.

I'm not pointing any fingers or getting all high-n-mighty, I just thought it was kind of amusing.

Been in the beta for a few weeks now.

COH is in open beta, but you had to sign up for it to get into it. But I think the Open Beta part is too short, a little over a week I think. The beta closes and servers get wiped on the 22nd. Only Pre-Orders, I think, get in 3 days ahead of the release date of the 28th.

The beta, to me at least, has not been buggy at all. The only problem I've really had was lag, but thats normal in any MMORPG. I've had more fun in this beta than I've had in any other MMORPG.

Check the forums of most on-line games, and you will find the most appropriate forum to discuss OTHER games are the 'real world', 'off topic', etc type forums.

Ok so I am a Magic based Blaster (Energy) and as per usual my name is Gwydeon. I'm also playing on Prime as my character on Justice got deleted (no biggie there). If I hit 14 with this charactor I'm going to try something else like a healer type next, I don't want to pass 14 as thats when the big stuff starts to happen.

The game is nuts, take the fastest paced MMORPG you've played and (hehe) *BAM* Kick it up a notch!

From everything I've heard on this thread, I've decided to Pre-Order.

How much play is single mode and how much is group?
What sort of "quests" does one do to lvl? Do you lvl?

Not sure how much is single and how much is group. But both are in it.

You do missions for your contacts or you can patrol the sections of the city and fight thugs. The missions vary. You get missions to defeat a certain amount of opponets, to find something of importance for somebody, clear out buildings, arrest Supervillians, etc...

You do have levels, but the only real attributes you get are Hit Points and Endurance. You do get to unlock more powers, more slots for enhancements for the powers and more slots for buffs, called Inspirations in game, at different levels.

That reading a paper thing is so cool! Okay - I'm in. I need to go read up on powers and stuff so I don't nerph myself right away - but I'm thinking Mutant (haven't decided which class) with water-related powers? Is that a possibility? I have a name, and of course everything springs from having a cool Super-Heroine name... <grin>
