Why would anyone take such a great thing like mashed potatoes and corrupt it with the evil lima? Limas are not true vegetables. They are EVIL. That's ok. When Satan appears, and telly you that you are his "bitch", and feeds you dogfood from Hell, you will remember that Teeny warned you. ![]() |

It wold be cool if my cable didn't stop working within 5 minutes of me logging into SL, oh, and if every female were in love with me (not to the point of stalking, just to the point that I have more than zero female options (I'm 18 and male... and lame :^p )). _____________________

Limas are NOT vegetables! They are straight from hell. Limas are not legumes. They are harvested by Satan himself from minor demons. Said demons have redundant kidneys that spontaneously regenerate.
I spent many hours staring at them on my plate as a kid. I knew back then they were evil. They thought they were slick, hiding among corn, but they didn't fool me.. Someday, the world will know of their evil, and hopefully it won't be too late. ![]() |

The pronounciation is different. I'm assumng your name is pronounced "Lee-ma". The bean is pronounced "lie-ma". As for the beans, they are green, ugly beans that make me gag. |

Web page with a link to a picture of "large lima beans". They come in different colors, either white or mottled reddish brown, or green, it seems. Google is your friend. ![]() _____________________

They're green? They look white in the pic. I've never seen a green bean before in my whole life, unless you count favas or peas as beans lol.
We do have some rather large white beans called "feijoca" and though I havent eaten them in a while theres nothing terribly special about their flavor. Just your average starchy bean flavor. Then again, I love brocolli, which seems to be another universally hated food over there ![]() |

Ok. Broccoli is freaking disgusting.
As for Teeny, well you're just nuts. And by nuts I mean the crappy UNSALTED kind, not the nice salted ones.... Those "white" lima beans look like dried seeds or something, they are green normally. You've never seen green string beans either (the long icky green ones)? Now, brocolli, THAT is gross. I unclog my nose in the general direction of BROCCOLI...arg. What's next? Are we going to claim that oysters are bad too? Get real! |

oh you call them string beans, cool i didnt know that
![]() my english is sorely lacking for everyday stuff. i dont know how to translate most stuff related to veggies and spices and shit like that. i think i should start watching some cooking shows or something =) around here we eat peas and favas in their pods as well, like those string beans. they have to be very young or else they will be fibrous and unedible. Its very hard to find since traditional food is everything BUT mainstream. I need to get out of town more often, them countryside hillbillies get all the nice food ![]() |

I say green beans myself too, but I've heard string beans be used to refer to the same thing. Maybe "string" is an older term because only grandma uses it. lol
But Darwin's on the other side of the country so maybe it's only used over here. Sorry my bean knowledge is lacking. |

Lima beans are NOT green or string beans.
In Spanish they are called los frijoles de lima. In Portuguese they are called feijao lima. (sorry couldn't put the proper accent mark over the a in feijao). This thread made me hungry...I am gonna have a whole can of lima beans for breakfast. Hmm, they make split pea soup, why can't the substitute lima beans and do the same thing. Peas are good to btw. _____________________

If you used an automatic translation proggy to get those translations, you should be aware that ive never seen "feijao lima" for sale anywhere in my entire life, and neither did i see it mentioned in any cookbook. Searching portuguese webpages for that term yielded no results, though it is mentioned in a couple brazilian pages. It looks like what we call "feijoca" around here and I still dont understand why people seem to have such an aversion to it.
Maybe it was somehow regarded as healthy and force-fed to them as kids? |

Maybe it was somehow regarded as healthy and force-fed to them as kids? You got it. Mothers do it to torture us. Actually, I like Lima beans. Maybe they don't exist down there Eggy? I mean, we don't have Lechi fruit here but it's everywhere in Costa Rica. Heck, we can't even buy the stuff here. We get crappy mangoes too that are pathetically small and cost two bucks a piece. Heck, black beans are considered a semi-rarity here and I know from traveling in Central America they are much more prevalent down there. Viva la food difference! Zana _____________________

Zana, Eggy isn't 'down there'. He is 'over there'. Portugal is in Europe, not South America.
