One with region corners would be nice

Juro,
There are several people who I would think either know or who I'd ask, for their valuable expertise and for things they've said to me in recent conversations: -Azelda Garcia (IIRC, Azelda, you told me there were 404 at last count?) -Ice Brodie -Strife Onizuka Oh... websites... http://www.profnano.org/sl/viewer.aspx http://www.slmaps.com/ It's a really good question. I'm curious for a comprehensive list too. _____________________

I'd go to a web page that has a drop-down selector for the Sims, such as the Event posting page, View Source, and Copy/Paste the list from the OPTION tags.
Of course, this would exclude the Private Sims. I don't think there's a way to Copy/Paste the drop-down list from the map button - that should include them all. _____________________

I wasn't really able to find a page like that, so I created a drop down menu from the most current map on slmaps.com:
Evidentally, I cannot post more than 20,000 characters in a single post. ![]() So, here's PART 1 of the drop-down code: CODE

we don't have 404... more like 150. And I know a couple people have them in a database... don't remember who!

From the list on slmaps.com, I got 483, including 'hidden' sims.

I used to keep a list of region names and their world coordinates in my Touring Hot Air balloon. However, there are way too many now to manage in the balloon, so I took it off the market until LL finally implements a llRegionName2WorldCoordinates() function.
It was just silly to try and use LSL to do what that simple function could do. It was also nasty to have to update it all the time. ![]() _____________________

I hope that the Lindens eventually add some automated way to receive this information - it changes too frequently for even the list posted here to remain accurate for long. Ideally, a web service that could retrieve the an XML list containing the names of all current sims would be ideal - it would allow it to be used for a variety of purposes on many different platforms.

Sure. I agree. It's public enough information -- heck, high-res downloadable versions of the map would be cool too. Would make some sweet posters or inworld art. It's important to preserve our history as time passes. _____________________

Man, Juro, I hope that didn't take you too long. There is an 'info@slmaps.com' link on the frontpage in case you wanted to ask me
![]() I actually have a page on SLMaps that outputs a comma delimited listing of all the sims. I had just taken it offline due to bugs and inaccuracies. Unfortunately it's hard to keep up with the private sims bouncing all around, so I may end up simply removing them and focusing only on the mainland. The other easy trick (other than my csv page or parsing the latest SLMaps map) is to go to the Add Events page on the SL website, the drop-down list for sims has all the coords in the source. That will get you all the mainland sims, as the private sims are not event-able by non-owners unless specifically put on an access list. I know others have listings of the sims for in-world activities, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has near-complete chronological information on them. You can even watch Jessie move as well as Coney disappear and Luna move too I might be the only one who cares about that, but oh well ![]() If you don't mind, Juro, would you PM me here or IM me in-world as to what you needed the list for? I'd gladly provide you with anything further you might need. |

The posted list is a tiny bit out of date. It has the original spelling for the Lost Lakes Sims (Windmere etc.) - the names were corrected a few days after release to accurately represent the spelling of Lake District regions.

Hidden Lake sims names are updated. One of these days I will lay down a maintenance process for the site. Probably after I get around to finishing the site itself

There was a nifty Burning Life exhibit by Ice Brodie on land owned by Adam Zaius which did just this. I came upon it and provided Ice with a chronological list so his grid would expand more than just fill in (I believe his original list was alphabetical).
You can see a few seconds of it in the beginning of Jack Digeridoo's Burning Life 2004 video. Unfortunately the site that I remember for him is fireballtrailers.com, which doesn't appear to be online currently. I took some video myself but it has not been edited down. This as well as working out some sort of web-based one (whether animated gif, style sheet tricks, something) are on my list of things to do, but unfortunately SLMaps comes after a lot of other things ![]() |
