So? Which is best?

I already have the 4600Ti. Anyone have Any compelling reason to upgrade already?

Yes there is.

The compelling reason is so you can send me your 4600Ti.

I bought a GeForce FX 5600 w/256mb on e-bay for $150 USD. I love it, I get 20FPS with just about every setting on, it's really nice. I probably should have sprung for a 5900, but, oh well! :P

Your card will probably be fine for now, Misnomer, I'd wait until you feel it's necessary.

I never had a 4600ti, I had the slightly older 500ti, so I don't know how it performs. Now I gave the FX5600 with 256 memory, and I -really- noticed a graphic improvement with 1.1 and I'm very happy with the addition in preferences of 256 video cards. I really get the feeling it's making a difference.

Also, I've had absolutely no compatibility or driver problem with any game or program. ( hehehe had to throw that one in all you ATI folk ;) )

I traded up from an MX card and really noticed a difference. On the MX the ground had no texture. I just wonder if there is a difference between the 4600Ti and the next upgrade :)

Im really in no hurry, just curious.

Jeebus, look at the jet-engine cooling fan on that thing! Is it powered by plutonium or something?!

Can't help myself from griping. I bought a 5600 FX 256MB on e-Bay for $120. It arrived in an envelope rather than a box, and the bracket was bent on arrival.

Live and learn.

Yikes! Mine came sealed in the original box, no problems. I've never been scammed or whatever on e-bay, but, you gotta be careful! Sorry :(

It's generally bad policy to buy any computer components on E-Bay unless they are NIB/new in box. Better luck next time Jake

Aha! No wonder ATI cards have so many problems in SL. Its all a conspiracy to get people to buy Nvidia cards... and this discount deal is the proof!

Hmm... I have a 32MB MX420... maybe I should upgrade, but I just can't decide if it's worth it... hmmm... j/k (I hate the bastards who sold us this computer and said it was the best for gaming)

If you're considering buying a board, you should know that Nvidia just announced some new products, so there's a possibility that the existing products will come down in price soon. Here's the message I just posted about it:

MJ, between a 4600 and 5600 you won't notice much if any difference in visual quality. You should see a pretty big performance boost though. I have both and the 5600 flies in comparison to the ti card. Then again it's also in a much much faster machine than the 4600. If I hadn't gotten the FX card with a new machine purchase I probably wouldn't be looking to ditch the 4600 yet.

Well, the ATIs are up to 9800 now, and the NVidias are only up to 5600, so the ATIs must be better, because 9800 is more than 5600, right?

lol Wednesday. I used to watch channel 4 news here because they have a "doppler 4000" weather radar... but then channel 9 got a "doppler 9000" so I'm guessing their weather is now 5000 better ;P

The 4600Ti is said to be a little faster than the 5600. It doesn't have all the eye candy support though.

I'm going to get a 5900 and see if I can use it for a couple years. Once the 5950 comes out it should go down in price even more than it already has. I'm hoping to get it for under $200.
