1. Yes
2. No
3. Indifferent

I'm 3. I basically have only a 1/16 with nothing on it anyway. So it doesn't really affect me. One of the reasons why I signed up for life was so I could be become a casual user. Not worrying about the monthly fee makes me worry less about leaving and coming back and having my stuff still there. Now with the new price changes, I'm not sure if my investment was worth it since I could have just been playing for a $9.95 flat fee.
In the point of view of world changes, I give it a big no for mixing RL cash & SL cash.

:\ :\

Don't leave Neph, Rathe or anyone else...

And personally... I'm at 2. I really really don't like these changes, and I don't think its fair to any Lifer to get hit this way.

I'm not sure, but I believe I'm over the 1/16th, and probably close to double it. So that means my tree in Shipley, which has be up longer then most people in SL have played will probably be going down.

I own little land. I have a lifetime membership. I haven't seen the changes in action. Therefore, I fall under #3.

"I'm not sure if my investment was worth it since I could have just been playing for a $9.95 flat fee."

That's the big issue for me. I guess I'm indifferent but I'll probably decide one way or the other in the long run. I'm just not sure the lifetime deal was such a good one anymore.

I'm a little upset that nobody's seeing the positive sides of this, and there are quite a few. It'll be alot easier to get other people to try this game for the first time, now. $10 for a game? Not too bad. All people have complained about on the economic forums are "taxes, taxes, taxes", now that's gone, so LL just gave people what they wanted. Be careful what you wish for, I guess.

Anyway, let's face facts--who honestly believes that LL could stay in business going the way they've been going? Bandwidth is EXPENSIVE!!! And I'm pretty sure SL uses more bandwidth per player than any other game out there by a LONG shot. Not to mention development teams, etc, etc.

I knew something was going to be changing drastically, eventually (otherwise SL would probably die within a few years due to extreme lack of profit), so I'm not too surprised about this.

Most people in the other thread are totally misunderstanding so many things, too. It's like a doomsday thread! Please...

6. I like some, but not all.

One of the changes i like the most in 1.2 is the no taxation on objects, sure it takes away reason to build up L, but there are or could be other things to spend L on. I see the taxation and Rez costs on objects as kind of restrictions on my creativity, limited by how much money i have. Which could be seen as good in some aspects.

One of the changes i like the least is of course the pay for extra land with US deal, I would like it if there was an option to pay with L too, so you could pay with L or US or pay some with L and some with US, this way people will have a reason to make money in world if they want, but also have the option to pay with US. Of course the "rich get richer" problem still exists with this, with someone being able to buy or charge top US dollar for property. So I'm not sure about that idea.

Of course this opinion is based on the details as they are now.

I can see the positive side of this. Unfortunatly, to me, the likely disadvantages greatly outweigh the benefits -- so much so, that even if the entire $1000 developer bonus they're waving around was being paid to me, I'd refuse it -- and that bonus is almost 10% of my net worth. Wrecking a community is not worth saving $14.95 a month to me.

This won't reduce bandwidth usage. If anything, it'll increase it. People can play without paying anything beyond that initial $9.95 -- and by moving around in the world, you use the same amount of bandwidth regardless of how much building you personally have done.

3. Works OK for me, removes some of the major problems vis prim banking and taxation. Wait and see; underlying feeling of disquiet.

Interesting that no one has yet chosen #1, that they like the changes. The most favorable responses so far have been indifferent, or wait-and-see. It isn't obviously a good idea to anyone.

Put me down with Nada on #5: I need more information.

(Although I'm leaning towards #2, simply because several good friends have threatened to quit. Anything that drives these people away is a bad idea, and would immensely diminish my enjoyment of the game, no matter how well the economics work out.)

I don't think we have enough info on it to make a rational desicion, i'm putting down as 3 for now, because of the lack of info. Most of the arguments i've heard are actually answered in other parts of the e-mail, or they have been answered a few times, but the person may be ignoring them. I just don't think they're enough info going around to really make a sound judgement on it either way or the other. Personally, i think the changes are going to work out well.

Why use numbers for a yes no poll? Almost like replacing paper ballots with electronic voting machines that irretrievably lose thousands of votes.

Anyway I'm a (1) Yes

Reasons:

(1) I only own half the amount of land allowed, and under the current system I would have probably had to unload some of that soon.

(2) I've never thought of SL as a "game", but rather a virtual place. I don't want to have to work so hard to go to a virtual place. An infinite number of games can be invented to work within SL for those who want to work at such things. I come to relax. :)

(3) Related to above... I think this vastly simplifies the accounting. And many of the people complaining about this also complained before the current system was introduced. There might need to be some tinkering with the numbers for this down the line, but there will be fewer things to tinker with, and the results of each tinkering will be easier to understand. The current system is so complex that nobody is ever sure about the net effect of any change (except those who view the whole thing as a game and take the time to optimize their behavior in order to "win";).

(4) Related to above... there are some who "love this game" but who apparently can't actually see the potential for 3D-VR beyond a simple 3rd person shooter or 3D monopoly game. At least a few of these have promised to leave without even trying the new system. Maybe the world will be a better place. I have no empathy for hotheads who act without data or analysis. (In another thread the question "how much is 1/16 sim was asked and answered about 30 times. Since none of the obvious answers seem to have sunk in, its 400000000 sq centimeters. Does that help?)

I'm probably 3. I like most of the changes, just confused about how buying land will work. We *really* need to see this in action before going any further.

I am usually the first to jump of joy for changes - I LOVE changes. But this one? What happens to my land now that I own more than 1/16th? Do I have to pay additional money? I signed up as a lifer cuz I dont wanna be chargerd aditional money.

Well actually this isnt the game I signed up for at all. I think this new game sucks! Money refound please..

I have a wait and see attitude. I could potentially profit, but the people I've grown to love here mean more to me than money. At least they can always still come visit for an incredibly cheap lifetime access fee.
