Is it an abuse of power for a land baron to ban any person from all their land/sims?

No. It may be annoying, but the land owner's rights are more important. Rights should be absolute, not subjective based on whether or not we approve of how someone spends their second life.

I would vote, but I find the YES/NO metric to be too binary. I'd have to see the specific example -- as with people in general, it comes down to the individual for me.

Good point. I think it does depend on the example.
If someone dislikes me and doesn't want me on his (or her) property, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to keep me out.

On the other hand, I know of at least one case where someone was fueuding with a neighbor and banned her from his land. Problem was, his land patches were checkered with (and partially encircled) her land, making it very difficult for her to get around. Maybe he was hoping she'd get fed up and move. I thought that was playing dirty.

It is an abuse of a protected power. Obviously the land owner has every right to ban but it is still abusive in nature if used in a retaliatory manner.

With some limited exceptions, no.

That doesn't mean its not rude, short sighted, or assanine. But it's not, strictly speaking, an abuse of power.

The one exception I can think of (And it's happened before) is if a land baron is using it as a bullying tactic... IE, "I own all the land near you, so I'm going to ban you from it and hope you get pissed and sell your land, because I want to own it as well".

Might want to start another poll asking if its an abuse of power to neg rate someones build because you don't like their practices too?

No. They bought it, they own it. You don't like it, go buy a bunch of land and ban them.

I read the last thread pertaining to this. If someone decides to neg rate me, slander me on the forums, and make a wise ass comment, I would ban their asses too. WTF should they expect? A money ball and welcome mat?

It's thier land. Getting along with one's nieghbors can indeed be difficult, but its neccesary.
Most rational people will not ban someone from thier land without feeling some sort of offense from the person they are banning.
Irrational ppl may ban without cause, but since we cant put out an edict saying you can only buy land if you are rational, then your only recourse is to not pick (or remain at) a location with an irrational nieghbor.

This is assuming that there are no actually enforceable breaking of the rules otherwise present. If there are, its still thier right to ban you, and your responsibility to report it and follow it up.

Unfortunately the ban feature is abused & used willy-nilly. I got banned by a major landholder in my last sim, over a comment made by my partner. Fortunately, the person did have the decency to not ban me from the large parcel that I sold, which is next to my small remaining bit of land there, when I moved out.

But still, I am not a griefer in anyway & never even got into any confrontation with the person over it at all. Is no fun to get banned for no good reason, much less get orbited out of my own sim! LOL mighta been fine had the guard been set to tp me home. Really not a huge deal to me /shrug, but needlessly annoying when I'm running short of time. Disconcerting when in an area I don't know well. Overall just stupid, tho.

So YES, I definitely feel it is an abuse of power. Some peeps own land all around telehubs & entire sims.. seems like this could block normal travel around the main grid.

For true griefers, I think LL should step in quicker & more severely. Another good poll topic, tho. heh
