If prims will cost nothing to rez in 1.2, then our present builds have L$ locked into them that we will not be able to get back by de-rezzing them after 1.2.
Are there plans to return that money to us, or should we simply de-rez expensive buildings right before 1.2 changeover, and then re-rez for free once 1.2 is online?
Maybe i'm just misunderstanding one of the many new facts of the coming version, but I'd hate to lose hundreds of L$ for nothing.

I have heard we will be getting refunded, from a couple of the Liasons. It would be silly not to, as we can just do a manual refund by picking things up the night before as you suggest.

Good question, Bel. Can we get an official Linden confirmation of this?

I thought objects would still cost to rez but wouldn't require weekly taxes. Am I wrong?

What's really important to note here is whether the income tax will be applied to de-rezzing objects post-1.2.
Sounds like a sticky wickett to me!

From what I got out of reading the first e-mail, rezzing objects will cost 0 L$.

What income tax? There will be no income tax in 1.2 - no tax of any kind actually. Unless, of course, you go over your allocation of land, which will then make you either pay RL money, or 10x the v1.1 amount of taxes

my understanding is that prims will cost 0L$ to rez and 0L$ to maintain. i don't know about the refunds. that would be nice.
you're correct eggy, there is no income tax at all in 1.2. there are only land taxes. they are finally repairing the terminology. in 1.2 stipends are called stipends, tax breaks are called allotments. land over your alloment is taxed in RL$ pure and simple.
i suppose we could say that it's paying a higher fee for an increased level of service. anybody want to argue that point?
wait wait wait. we don't pay income taxes now. we pay taxes on land and on use of prims. that's more like a spending or luxury tax. income taxes result in double taxation and we don't have that. if we did, your weekly stipend would be taxed and would be taxed at a higher percentage as your bonus increased.

I thought they said there would be no taxes, period, in 1.2.
From: Getting to Know v1.2
No More Property Taxes! It's true! Second Life v1.2 puts an end to the stress and confusion of object and property taxes. Even better, it no longer costs you a single Linden Dollar to build objects in world. A vastly simplified economy in v1.2 means that you own what you own and can build as you please - with no worries about a property tax bill hitting you at the end of the week.
UPDATE:
Disregard that before this sentence. There will be property tax, that'll be the extra fee for land paid for by RL$ or L$ every month.

Conspicuous by their absence is an official reply by the Lindens about this.
Despite the hassle, I am planning on derezzing all my objects in world this weekend to recover the money invested in them, unless I receive an official word that we will be reimbursed for them.
It is bad enough that many (the 5% that will pay more) will lose all they worked for in the last months, so we have to try and salvage whatever we can.

Check Philip's response to another thread to see if it answers the question.

Posted here for your convenience: From: someone Important Note:
Per Kathy's mail about changing land costs...
When we switch to the new version, we will give all users a L$ credit to their balance for the current value of the land and objects that they have in-world. So the reduction in claim cost for land and the removal of de-rez credits will have NET ZERO effect on you as an existing resident.
you DO NOT need to delete stuff or release land in an attempt to take advantage of this changeover - we recognize the value of everyone's builds and will be doing it for you as a credit.
