there is no other group qualified in SL for this work. most people are in sl for leisure, not to work like dogs for money. if they do want to work like dogs for money, first they ought to prove they are worth hiring. the group that recieved this commision has done that time and time again with outstanding content creation for the community. a walnut tree house just won't cut it.
this is a RL commision. it's not part of our virtual hallucination of some free and equal society. _____________________

The point is, here was a business opportunity. But people COULDN'T compile their impressive portfolio and make a presentation to that business, because they didn't know that business opportunity existed. The Lindens never told anyone about it, as far as I know. do you know what you are talking about? it takes months and months of many peoples time and energy to put together a portfolio that you need for this. you can't just whip one up over the weekend. _____________________

If you're talking about bedazzled, then, ya, obviously they deserve it.

Also, impressive display of intellectual capacity, people.
Once again we are devolving back into the inane group of children we once were. Sometimes I think smoking weed is a pre-requisite for posting on these forums. _____________________

There's no need to be childlike and mean, though.
While we all disagree with Coco's premise, she isn't trying to be mean. It just happens to be what she thinks, I don't see why we all feel the need to make fun of her for having a sincere opinion. _____________________

The Lindens never told anyone about it, as far as I know. You sound like Prok complaining because I received a temporary land grant to build city in the snow sims. In that case the complaint was because the contest wasn't advertised to all of SL (it was just in the forums). Are you sure you're not Prok? ~Ulrika~ _____________________

Do we really care?
Do we care if Coco is satan or brad pitt or jesus christ? Do we care if Coco is envious or not envious? Why is Coco's emotional state of being so extremely vital to this thread? Why is it vital to any of us? Like someone said above - WHO CARES _____________________

I'm Brad Pitt. Just not feeling so well right now. Typing from the hospital, and the nurse keeps trying to confiscate my laptop.

As Second Life continues to grow and evolve, new opportunities will continue to emerge for Linden Lab, our residents and developers interested in creating content.
Occasionally, Linden Lab is approached by companies and individuals interested in developing in-world experiences that may not be meant for public use. These typically require a private island and are not viewable from the main grid. As such, often it is necessary to maintain confidentiality at the owner’s request. In the past when these companies have approached us we have recommended Second Life developers that have strong track records in areas of development required to complete the projects. Moving forward, we will be listing qualified developers in a directory style listing on our website that allows interested parties to source the development talent that they choose based on their requirements. The Developer Directory will be part of an overall world-class developer program, complete with tools, documentation and support to ensure anyone interested in providing development services has the proper level of support from Linden Lab. Until the developer program launches, we will continue to need to make recommendations. If you would like to be considered for commercial projects please write to proposals@secondlife.com. Include the following information in your email (to be considered for publication on the Second Life Developer website directory): SL Name: Company Name: Address: Address: City: Postal/Zip: Country: Phone: Mobile: (optional) IM: (optional) Fax: (optional) Email Address: Your Website URL: Your SL Coordinates: Service Offerings: [Use one or two word descriptions. Examples: Content Creation, Animations, Scripting, Training, Support, etc) Description: (maximum 250 words describing your areas of expertise and company) Previous Projects Completed: Finally, we would like your input and suggestions on how we can build the Second Life Developer Program to help make you successful. Please add any comments to your email. Linden Lab believes that the Second Life community has a strong and growing developer base that allows companies to source qualified developers to work on their projects. We depend on great developers creating great content and we are looking forward to continued strong growth with our developer community. The fact that large clients are beginning to hire Second Life Developers is a major milestone for us all and hopefully a sign of great things to come. _____________________

The fact that large clients are beginning to hire Second Life Developers is a major milestone for us all and hopefully a sign of great things to come. Exactly.. this is actually great for ALL of us they picked Bedazzled, because they will have made us *ALL* look very good. Bedazzled can't do them all, so let them bring in more customers than they can handle themselves, and the rest of the community can take over. _____________________

If you would like to be considered for commercial projects, please write to proposals@secondlife.com. Additionally, we would love your input and suggestions on how we should build the Developer Program to make you most successful. Thank you, Robin. This invitation to write to the proposals address might be a good thing to put in the ongoing announcements forum Pendari suggested be implemented. Not sure what the developer program is. Is that detailed someplace else, where I could go see what it means? I have some other suggestions which might be more properly addressed under that topic. coco |

Whoever they recommended... Good for them! WOOOT! Gratz! Whatever happened to ppl being glad when someone gets a lucky break? Did it go the way of chivalry? Anyway - Good for them! you have to under stand that some might live in a community allready where work goses to a select few allready some people dont like this idea becuase they might be trying to suceed in sl aswell ans surely 17k would do that for them. or they could just be joking in their response. |

But people COULDN'T compile their impressive portfolio and make a presentation to that business, because they didn't know that business opportunity existed. The Lindens never told anyone about it, as far as I know. coco The point is that you might try being proactive rather than reactive. Did you ever consider directly proposing an unsolicited project to LL? Did you ever consider doing some work on spec? Do you have a portfolio at the ready? Do you have a killer idea you'ld love to see implemented? Nobody is preventing you from contacting LL to give them a head's up ya know. |

Kendra, I'm not interested in doing this at all myself.
Plus, let me point out that Robin has already effectively solved the problem at hand with the posting of that e-mail address for submission of resumes and portfolios. Now I'd like to see what she has offered here - that address - sitting in a forum of it's own, called "Ongoing Announcements and Opportunities," with perhaps other refinements to the system, to be discussed later, once the Development Program gets posted somewhere for discussion and suggestions. coco |

I think this all calls for two thank-yous:
1. Thanks to Tony Walsh, author of the excellent Clickable Culture site, for digging up and posting something informative and of interest to the SL community. 2. Thanks to LL for realizing they need to make the process of recommending players for contracted work more fair. It's going to mean more work for LL in the long run, but it's good for everybody for LL to facilitate this. Kudos! _____________________
