I'm interested in finding a man here in SL who can KEEP it in SL. No sharing of real names/where we live/NOTHING RL.....for a long term SL relationship.

This will be an experiment of sorts, because I dont think it can be done.

You know...for as populated as SL is, it does seem hard to actually meet people. Most places I go to are near empty.

I agree. For a place that has 30kplus members on at any given time, it's amusing how I can be in there and spend my entire time alone.

Maybe you guys need to hang out with me or I need to hang out with you for a while.... I meet at least one new person every day. I used to be grateful if someone offered me friendship. I've gotten to a point now that I'm turning down more than I accept.

I've actually gone out with the purpose of trying to meet people. I'm not a fan of clubs, but I've gone to those...after searching around to find one with people actually in them. I've gone to some of the public hangouts, which are always empty. Where does everyone hang out in SL? I can't seem to find it! I've seen areas on the map that have a ton of people in them, but the couple times I tried map-hopping I ended up in orgy areas and then ended up in someone's private party one time....so that was the end of map hopping for me.

Couldn't tell ya... I went map hopping once... ONCE... I landed in one of hundreds of orgy places and couldn't immediately tp out. I felt like a sacrificial lamb

Maybe we need to all work together and organize (semi-secretly) a party so that we can all meet and hang out. We'll need a relatively empty/lag-free space and everyone who shows needs to invite people off of their friends list.

I'm actually trying to somewhat plan a birthday party in SL for my friend (RL best friend/roommate and SL bestfriend/neighbor). I set up an area in the sky above my land and am currently looking for different things to put up there to decorate it and have some activities. I was thinking of listing it in the events section on that day (July 31st)....I've never done that before, do you think there would be people who would actually show up, or is it usually still just newbies looking for "fun"?

Call my cynical maybe but it might be safer doing it word of mouth. Broadcasting it to strangers certainly ups the odds that newbies/griefers alike might show. Send just the landmark to people you know along with an IM asking that they invite others they know....

Yeah...thats what I thought. The problem with sending LM's and invites to people we know is...we don't know many people! Going back to the original topic, it's hard to meet people on here...so thats why I was thinking of the event thing. I didn't even take into account that griefers might hunt it out also.

I have met a number of people either through slprofiles.com or sl.me.com . . . it is at least another approach

@those having trouble meeting people --- Have you tried using Search to find Groups for things you are interested in, either in SL or RL? There are groups for SL sailing and ballroom and music and filmmaking and religions (including humanism and atheism) and building and scripting and often for the RL city you live in. And of course for shopping. Or, get a job in a sim you love --- working in SL is a great way to meet people. Or take some courses at NCI or TUI and IM people who make comments you agree with.

@ange --- I seriously wouldn't advertise a party for friends in events! Just have your friends bring their friends. And have an activity or two so people can comment on them and get to know each other. Like tell everybody to come wearing the most interesting thing/avatar they own. With luck you will get mermaids and tiny furries and a centaur and a baby and a dragon. Or have fireworks. Oh, and of course the toasting goblet and dancing cows. Gotta have those!

Oh yeah...plenty of dancing cows for the party. I've gotten some great stuff to set up, the bouncing romper play thing and trampolines. Basically just want a bunch of silly games and avatars

I've joined some groups and gone to a few of the events there, thats actually where I have met 1 really good friend. Recently the estate owners of the area I live in held a town hall meeting inviting everyone from all the islands they own, and are planning on having events here and there for the estate group...so looking forward to that too

interesting topic , i never thought of sl that way. i guess everything in rl is transposed to sl so why not.
And Sunny , we are out there you know, romance is the art or anticipation.
You just need a guy with his own material and not the 100 year old pickup line book that alot of guys seem to have around here.
