From: Roland Hauptmann Well, if that source is correct, then I stand corrected... I think I'll stick with my belief that the war on drugs is simply flawed and should be done away with. Of course it's true, I found it on the internet.

I agree with that statement 100% It is impossible to win and I think we've already spent far too much money and lost too many of our peace officers and innocent bystanders in the process.

From: Ellie Edo Being happy on the poverty line, with no hassle ? This is a demonstrable effect, yes. And it's one of the reasons that I tend to think that marijuana will eventually be legalized (if the rewards of such legalization ever outbalance the huge monies and resources the government gets to commandeer for its pathetic, putative "war" on drugs). Because, well, more people are heading toward poverty, eh? You know: the whole economic polarization thing? And letting us po' folks smoke dope would be such a convenient way to supplement the usual bread & circuses ... Mmmmm ... bread .... *exits to the kitchen* Whoa. Jesus, this is ... whoa ... Have you ever really looked at a piece of toast?

From: Memory Harker And letting us po' folks smoke dope would be such a convenient way to supplement the usual bread & circuses ... "There's always soma to calm your anger, to reconcile you to your enemies, to make you patient and long-suffering. In the past you could only accomplish these things by making a great effort and after years of hard moral training. Now, you swallow two or three half-gramme tablets, and there you are. Anybody can be virtuous now. You can carry at least half your morality about in a bottle. Christianity without tears-that's what soma is." ~ World Controller Mustapha Mond ~ Brave New World One problem I see with this is that we have this massive pharmaceutical industry that will want the lion's share of the 'soma' market. Why legalize that messy and unpredictable marijuana when Big Pharma can offer you this little pill that will quiet those peasants right down in a predicable, measured way (not to mention make the company a tidy profit in the mean time)? -Ghoti This message brought to you by Zoloft©-brand soma!

Hmmm.....
Raises a further possibility. Suppose a government wanted to drug its underclasses into apathy and passivity ? What better way to get them to swallow the stuff than pretend it was the last thing they wanted, make it illegal and thus superficially an act of rebellion and independence ?
You understand - I don't necesarily believe that all these things I suggest are true. I just love toying with possibilities.........

[/I] That's one of the reasons dope's currently illegal, ya think?

They will still prosecute the offenders w. the stricter federal laws. If they were to legalize then it would open the floodgates and some of the more dangerous and unpredictable products would start to be fast tracked for legalization. Frankly, it has been proven time and again that cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous/poisonous than the above mentioned plant. I would look for prohibition to be re-instated and cigarettes outlawed (which is in progress) long before Mary's Iguana is legalized. I doubt the federal government will EVER give up ground in this matter. From: someone Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it." And so it happened: the earth brought forth every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it was. From: someone God also said: "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food; and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food." And so it happened. Given the religious zealotry currently entrenched in our political system, if they agreed to make salads as opposed to inhaling they might have a good chance of making an impact.

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry? Where are the flag wavers who so laud the freedoms symbolized by a flag and written by quill pens in our constitution? Why are we not rallying in the streets against this sort of attrocity? Why because we are gluttonous lazy bastards who say it won't happen to me so who cares. --Ishtar Pasteur
