Suffix of respect

Mr. and Mrs. and Ms and Miss are going the way of the unicorn online since gender barriers are illusory at best. My suggestion is that as a sign of respect among people in this forum, we begin using the suffix "pants" after people's names. After all, pants did cross the gender barrier not too long ago in RL.

Chancepants, Pandastrongpants, Euterpepants, Ulrikapants, Garoadpants, Torleypants, Ebonipants... etc. Sounds good, doesn't it? :D

I thought "Sai" had a nice ring to it (Formal term used in Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series)... But pants'll do. :D

... But if I meet Spongebob and want to be polite, the would I call him Spongepants Bob Squarepants or Sponge Bobpants Squarepants?

I like "Sai" a lot too, and I say thankee.

I always like -san, as it is actually respectful and gender neutral.

As in:

"We had lunch today at Hibachi-san" :) (One of my current clients!)

I noticed that if their name ends in a hard consonant, it doesn't flow. Add an o' before pants.

Spongebobo'pants Squarepants :D

I say "Thankee-sai" a lot to people, but I'm working on finding a way to call people by the honorific, "Riff-raff".

There is a guy I used to work with who was constantly interjecting really snippy, vapid, off topic remarks into our decision making discussions.

For instance: "Well that's all great that you guys want to streamline the way dispatch distributes service calls in the north metro region, but, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS ABOUT LUNCH BREAKS BEING EXTENDED TO 1.5 HOURS IF WE CHOOSE TO WORK LATE ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY!!!??!!??

We all started calling him "Sassypants".

See? 'Chancepants' is great! :D

Euterpepants--phonetically "You-ter-PEE-pants"--sounds a bit too much like an advertisement for Depends. Could we add an addendum that allows for the usage of last names? 'Roopants' has a much better ring, I think.

Denkyouberrymush! :D

I'm afraid I don't agree as it interrupts the natural flow of my naturally flowing name. If you come up with something else, let me know an I'll think about it ;)

I throw my hat in with -sai or -san

And name honorifics should be applied to either the first name or the last name, depending on your level of familiarity...

Therefore, SOME of you could call me "Alainsai",
But most of you should call me "Alain Talamascasai", in deference to the fact that we are not yet informal.

There are even a few of you that can just call me "Alain" (You know who you are.)
The honorific is not necessary between close friends... or between people who have spent time with each other naked under non-anonymous circumstances, for that matter.

Of course the social implications of levels of familiarity are far-reaching. Are we sure we want to embark on this little cruise through Societal engineering?
Wouldn't it be better just to let the organic process evolve on its own?

I think, to make everyone happy, we need to compromise by combining some of these suggestions.
How about -sanspants?

Ironically, until last week I never did wear pants.

Now I do.

So pants works for me.

If "The Gray" is a suffx of respect, as in "Gandalf the Gray", then we'll have no problem addressing each other with it for the next couple of days.
