I have my personal spiritual beliefs. but I learned this nifty trick of not trying to either a)Impose them on other people. Or b)Tell other people they were wrong for having different beliefs to mine.

One of my favourite patimes on threads like these is seing just how simillar the religious and the athiest people are. Perfect faith on both sides. Beautiful.
well, this thread IS for telling people what their beliefs are. I don't think it is possible to change someone's faith is it?
must be a safe place to sit up on that fence!

* oh wow, are we even allowed to talk about stuff like this here?? *

. I believe in the sayings, "there are no atheists in foxholes" and, "the older you get the more you think about religious stuff" (last one is mine).

. I cannot believe in another person's or organization's god (no evidence that convinces me, sorry)

. I believe in "a" god but I will take no guff about it (no evidence to offer you, sorry)

. I believe in the distinction between "science" (falsifiability) and "faith" (manifesting in reality based not on evidence but declaration)

. I believe in the saying "the pessimists are right but the optimists live longer".

* wow * Thanks for posting this!

I wanted to start a thread about telling what we believe in, rather than debating what others believe.

There's been a lot of threads lately about religion and belief. I've noticed that many people have been questioning other people's faith. I wanted to start a thread about telling what we believe in, rather than debating what others believe.

There's a series on NPR called "This I Believe", which takes people from all walks of life, some famous, some not, and lets them state what moves them, what dreams they aspire to, what their core faith is. Guess I'll start...

I consider myself a Christian, in that I believe in a higher power, and that Jesus of Nazareth was one of this power's many manifestations among us. I believe that we should love others as we would want to be loved. I call this higher power God, and I believe that many other people call this power by many other names. I believe no one person has the corner on Truth, and that one of our purposes in life is to constantly seek Truth, to understand that which we cannot fully comprehend. I believe I have gifts which I must use, and flaws which I must overcome.

My beliefs are pretty simple. They also touch every aspect of my life. I'm interested to know what others believe in.

Well said Liona. I agree with practically everything that you said.

This statement would cause one to assume that God had lived. Isn't that a detractor for an Atheist?

LAFS... classic Lecktor!!!

I believe that the universe is much more complex than the five human physical senses will ever allow humans to see. I believe that much goes on beyond the realms of three dimensional physical manifestation than anyone imagines. I do not believe that a creative "intelligent" being is automatically a father figure or loving. I believe all sentient entities have one thing in common. They have motivations that are individual and they have consideration for others only when they want to. I don't believe anything is all knowing. I don't believe anything is all powerful. I think all Gods/Goddesses/Its can be destroyed if they do exist. The only question is how. I think everyone is responsible for thier own actions. No demon is inside you forcing you to do bad things. No God is inside you helping you to do good things. I believe there are things that wish to harm humans, but it is not about a war with some loving God. It is about food. I believe that if you want salvation, that only you can find the way. It is dangerous to trust a God you barely even know.

I guess my beliefs are quite a bit different than most people.

Oh and I forgot the most important belief of all. I believe humans are not special in any way. I don't believe there is anything great or horrible about humans. To me they are just another spot on the food chain.

Sure the masochists can play! If you don't want to be treated like one, just go play with somebody else! lol! It may be a simple concept, but it has worked for me.....so far....I guess until the aliens come...

It may be true we are all animals, but only man can destroy the entire Earth. Humans are the only animals with the ability destroy all life as we know it, scary thought, seeing who hold their finger on the button.... I'm glad God is in control and love is the answer... well... that's what I believe anyhow :)

This post has been deleted because Ulrika Zugzwang came to criticize it. I did not want to enter into a debate. I thought this thread was a place where everyone got a chance to turn up, present their own views, and go (free of criticisms).

Guess I was wrong.

I think I can't know enough to definitively stand on one side of the fence or the other on specifically how humans were made, but I do believe there is a creator. I believe that because it's what I choose to believe, in a world where there are no certain answers, not from any side.

I believe:
•SL and religion don't mix well since only the Lindens can do "anything" ingame.
•JFK was killed by a conspiracy of his vowels, leaving him with only initials.
•That the European Union is going to take away more rights of Americans than George W. Bush ever has or will.
•That the oil will run out soon.
•Fatness can be healthy; it's all about muscle tone.
•Much of what we believe to be correct can sometimes turn out to be lies/hoaxes/untrue, so I believe I'll believe the opposite of everyone else just in case.
•I believe I'll have some potato chips.

I believe that Blizzard nerfed rogues in World of Warcraft today. And if there is a Merciful and Just God, he will show Blizzard the error of their ways.

Or turn them into steam....

I believe I'll find out soon enough, as will we all. Why stress over it? Live a good life and help some folks out. Try not to hurt too many folks. Be honest. Be honorable.

I lean towards certain afterlife scenerios, but sure don't absolutely believe anything, since I have no absolute proof. So I'll wait and see. Life is short. Worry about how you live it and how you treat others. If the christians are right and I end up in hell..oh well. At least I lived my own life and didn't depend on god to tell me what to do, and didn't blame the devil when I did things wrong. I'm responsible for my own actions.
