Sometimes I am intrigued to know the age of certain posters in the forums, so I check out their forum profile. More often than not, the DOB is left either completely blank, or is missing the year. So I thought I would create a poll to get an idea of why that is

I only noticed that most do not display it (well the ones i checked anyway lol) the other day. Someone was going on about their considerable life experience etc etc, so decided to have a look - nothing. That led me to check out other profiles and I realised most do not disclose their full DOB.

i will be 35 on Thursday =/ To answer Hiro's question, mine is displayed but wasnt at first because when I first signed up there was little info available on what it was for, or whether it was secure data, or what. Because it was not clear what I was doing, I erred on the side of caution. LL seriously needs someone more skilled in written communication to re-do the stuff on the website (no offense to whomever did the current job). _____________________

LOL just kidding wasnt me - I think after that post the other day and just general knowledge this is one of the huge areas where Web design is lacking in todays world. I just forgot to put it in my profile I think. Besides, it's kind of a non-issue for me and one thing I really love about SL is that I have a lot of friends of all ages from early 20's to somewhere in their 70's. I cannot think of a solitary RL friend who I could ever share a laugh about "Badger, Badger" or Killer Penguins or Giant Snails with, (well.. besides hubby - who is in SL). <---50 here (Edited to say Happy Birthday Pen & Colette!) _____________________

Giving out birthdate helps identity theives

Would you make your SSN publicly available? Both SSN and DOB are used as part of identity verification used by credit agencies (at least in the USA). Giving out your real birthdate is just as bad as giving out your SSN.
