your reffering to Truman (democrat) involving us in Korea, Kennedy (democrat) getting us into Vietnam and LBJ (democrat) widening the Vietnam war. Now I ask what did the Republicans do that was so wrong again? Not ignorant of anything but your history.

Korea was a UN action handed over to the US. Truman limited the scope of a war that could have spread to China and Russia. (Also ignoring the vastly beneficial social programs Truman instituted is somewhat stupid).

Next up we have Eisenhower, a republican, who pulled the same shit republicans have been pulling since. He set up a series of events that inevitably led to an oppressive (yet american backed) regime. Which then led to our being pulled into a conflict we had no business being involved in. Kennedy's major failures was waiting so long to put down that regime and he was assassinated before he could have a chance to order our withdrawal.

Finally, we have LBJ, who was an idiot. You'd think people would learn from the mistake, but no. Nixon didn't, and certainly both Bush's didn't. The best of intentions doesn't make it right. And if you're wrong, you'll still be wrong even if you kill all the 'bad' guys.

hmm what social issues did Truman institute? He rode Roosevelts coat tails. Eisenhower didn't setup any events that lead up to anything, aside from negotiating a ceasefire in Korea. He dealt mainly with rebuilding Europe. Kennedy didn't try and undo anything, he is the one who ordered the "advisors" into Vietnam when the French pulled out. LBJ only expanded the Vietnam War and sent US troops into combat there. Nixon continued to fight it but then pulled out of Vietnam. Truman did limit the Korean campaign to only Korea. MacArther was the only one who wanted to go into China. Truman relieved him of command because he was an idiot. Now I think you need to read something like

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Truman and conversely http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenhower

then follow that with
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F_Kennedy#Criticism and then this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_B._Johnson and then this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Nixon

I'm sorry to say, but your history is slightly tainted by your views.

I certainly don't have any problem with the old-school republicans. They were decent. It's these new neo-cons that -call- themselves republicans that I have a problem with. They don't represent conservative thinking at all, they represent combining church and state, big government spending, MAJOR corporate welfare, censoring anything that has to do with sex or nudity (oh no! Janet's boob! Horrible!), the government spying on the people, and lowering taxes for rich people (even though the government is spending more)--a combination that if allowed to flourish will surely put a halt to this country.

Now, when compared with modern democrats, like Clinton who pushed forth NAFTA who lied to the gay community with things like the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, and then flipflopping people like Kerry and many others (who flip flop based on who they're talking to, not based on learning new facts), and their own sense of promoting corporate welfare, and censoring anything that might offend people in special interest groups (oh no, a cartoon with someone wearing blackface! Censor! Change Tom's owner's voice (Tom & Jerry)! It's offensive!), and their only ability to debate is to rank on the opposite side instead of offering alternatives, I'd say this country has a choice between a rock and a hard place.

Both parties --IN THEIR CURRENT FORM-- suck horribly, and if neither of them change, we're going to be seeing some very hard times in the next 10 years.
