From: Alex Fitzsimmons I voted for, "SHOULD be able to tell people not to wear anything religious and not to have posters in their space." I personally think we could do with a lot less social tolerance of religion in general. From: Vonn Neumann Personally I am with you all the way on this Alex, I believe the social influence of religion is FAR too great. So much for tolerance and diversity. -Kiamat Dusk

From: Kiamat Dusk So much for tolerance and diversity. Are gods so needy that they can't go a whole eight hours a day without being worshipped? Part of tolerating diversity is understanding when something isn't appropriate and accepting it.

From: Vares Solvang I voted for “SHOULD be able to tell people not to wear anything religious and not to have posters in their space. “ This helps to avoid any conflicts in the work place while at the same time respecting the beliefs of all. It's a business, not a place of worship. What Vares said. I manage about 70 people, and while we don't tell people how they can decorate their cubes or whether they're allowed to pray to themselves whenever they want, we do have restrictions on openly celebrating religious holidays. Most of our employees are Christian but we also have some Jews, one Muslim, and a couple of us atheist-types, and the idea is to NOT promote any one of those religious views over any other. They are also allowed to smoke -- outside in the prepared break area behind the building (20 below 0? Sorry, not inside). And one of my staff is an older gentleman with a beard. He keeps it neatly trimmed and is invaluable to me when we have system problems - I love that man to death, nobody hassles him about his beard at all. There's something else that needs to be mentioned here. Written policy is one thing. On paper, everyone in a company is technically equal in terms of being eligible for promotion. But in practice, the well-groomed folks who have gone out of their way to get along with people are always going to have an upper hand over the smelly BO freaks who yell "Praise Jesus!" every time Dr. Phil comes on the breakroom TV
