Are there any folks on Second Life (besides me and DJ Koden) who're j-pop and anime fans? I've been nutty about japanimation ever since Sci-Fi Channel first had their little "Saturday Anime" line up but until my exposure to the internet and Napster I never really had much chance to hear japanese music. I started off snagging themes from Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star, then an online buddy linked me to Project-J and I became enthralled with the music and ever-changing appearance of Camui Gackt. Aside from him I also like Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, The Pillows, Orange Range and L'arc en Ciel. http://www.projectj.net/gackt.htmCamui Gackt http://www.crysania.com/tattered/who.htmlDir en Grey http://www.frappr.com/direngreyfanswww.livejournal.com/users/blazefox私は精鋭主義の心の'DIRU-FANS'に謝ります。 'HOTTOPIC.COM'での'DIR-EN-GREY'音楽ディスクの販売は私の欠点です。 私は2005年12月にメールを'シンディ・レビット'と'FREEWILL AMERICA'に送りました。 fandomを不純にしたなら、私は残念です。 =P I do all my translating through Excite ( http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/) so I'm sorry if it says anything offensive, lol. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/feature/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002345276http://www.last.fm/group/Dir%2Ben%2Bgrey/forum/917/_/101438/3http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Diru_Tacoma/

I don't think there's any shortage of fans of Japanese animation on Second Life. I don't watch as much as I used to, but I've been interested in it for, well, most of my life I guess. Didn't really take off until about ten years ago, though, and my first introduction to a Japanese import (Bubblegum Crisis, which also started my cyberpunk fetish!). If you're interested in anime and j-pop, try this web stream that was recently introduced to me: http://radio.keiichi.netIt's a fun stream, and you can request songs on their website (although broadcast standards mean you have to wait at least an hour for the song). Anyway. Yay! XD

There used to be a sim called "Little Tokyo", which has long ago died out (once some major SL change came into effect although it had become pretty inactive before that). It was basically "anime land" with alot of various things from shows. The coolest part was the market, which had some pretty neat things for sale in it. The SL population was tiny back then, so if there were enough anime fans to take over a sim (I mean, the hard way, not by buying it all at once)...I think it's safe to say there's a crapload here now! www.live365.com has some pretty decent anime music streams too.

I like a lot of anime, but I don't like most anime fans and I generally avoid congregating with them. I can only endure so many arguments about why Naruto isn't the Mona Lisa of anime before I snap and slaughter the whole room.

Although to be fair, it doesn't matter what they are fans of Anime, sports or SL, the slavish irrational devotion, without thought, to anything frustrates me.

I dunno if I have a great deal of exposure but what I have seen I liked: On Sci-Fi my first animes were Cashaun: Robot Hunter, Project A-Ko, Dominion Tank Police, 8-man After, and Akira. When Toonami came around I was watching Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, DBZ, and Gundam Wing. Adult Swim turned me onto Inuyasha, Ruroni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Tri-Gun, Dot Hack and The Big 0. A couple of my friends where I live like Ebichu and Naruto. I don't have a stockpile of fansubs, but I have some Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Sonic X and I've only seen the first few eps of Gravitation. I think I may've seen Gundam Seed on Cartoon Network, it has an ending theme by Gackt, ne?

Every subculture or fandom usually has its share of unpleasantries, no matter what crowd you're part of. Whether it be furry, otaku, trekkie or whatever. Some person (or group of people) is gunna be there looking for something stupid and meaningless to fight about... just take a look at F-chan. *sudden urge to make song called "These are the people on the internet" done to the melody of Sesame Street's These Are The People In Your Neighboorhood*

I'm a big fan of DJ Jinnai's j-pop remixes. I haven't been to any anime cons yet, I've only been to furry stuff like AnthroCon and Conifur, though I've been considering possibly going to Sakura-Con as a change of pace.

I'm not a YUGE fan by any means but there's some Japanese media stuff I'm very passionate about, like certain Final Fantasy characters (like Lulu) and my ally Xyni Platini turned me onto stuff like Digi Charat and Azumanga Daioh. Jadey and I used to watch Bleach... hee hee. What I believe is there oddly seems to be a shortage of Japanime stuff in SL. Masakazu Kojima had this AWESOME pink anime store in Baku, it totally rocked, had an awesome office and coloring book (that worked) and everything. Her designs are so much fun... MASA IF YOU SEE THIS I SAY HI . And further back, I saw pictures of Little Tokyo, no longer around as Garoad mentioned. There are some prominent oldbies who based their avs on that sort of influence, Yuniq Epoch wayyy before my time for example, but hmmm... If you want to check out something forthcoming, go to Cincta (160,96) and check out the Frucee HQ. Frucee is a new venture started by Xyni, and it's superliciously about anime and beyond!

Sorry, I've been waiting since the beginning of the thread for someone to make that smartass comment; nobody's obliged so the BALANCE MUST BE RESTORED! As for me, I'm a fan of animated movies. I enjoy much of Japanese anime, but I am not a anime fan.

Lol ^_^ Thanks for mentioning me Torley, hahahaha. I'm quite a passionate fan of anime, although I admittedly don't have as much hands on experience with the fan scene as I would like to advertise, hahaha. More so, I am an enthusiasat of the art style... you can't really pigeon hole anime style into one single sweep of the scyth, but I like to sit in and soak as much of it as possible without crossing the otaku border line (I SUFFER FOR YOU!)^_^ I'll admit though that I am a sucker for giant, watery, 1/3 of the head eyes and shiny shiny - progressively more shiny hair... almost always have to have those two elements in my work. I also love generally high pitched genki, genki, suki, suki, daisuki anime music, itotunes and kawaii radio are my favorite net radio stations... albeit I often wonder if my idea of music is a normal person's idea of sadistic torture ^_^
I'm very glad to see anime has progressed as much as it has over the last decade, albeit, import manga in NA is a bit jacked up still compared to the highly disposible originals you can find on the stands in Japan, I'm definitely not complaining, better than the old days of VHS trading and alley walking importation, although the other day I came a across a nice store that was selling original Japanese manga for $2 each, so I was very happy, wanted to buy the entire Dragon Half volumn set there and then ^_^ Oh, and anything by Koge Donbo of course ^_^
OH! I got so carried off I forgot to mention my little Frucee shack in Frucee-vision Cincta... For the time being, it's just a prototype for an SL version of my gallery of assorted cute anime things... if you fly by Cincta, you'll recognize it cause the building looks like a four legged octopus with an egg for a brain in a giant pill like capsule... and is very pink... it also stands out like the sore thumb of God ^_^ Got Remon and Rime cutouts there (Two cute anime girl mascots that may or may not like Men's Pocky despite being very female and bipedal), and hope to have a bunch of other examples of colorful eye candy there in the later days, so please have a fly by if you've got the time ^_^

XYNI!!! OMG it's so good to see you here *huggerz*. I can definitely see you finding a place here, I don't quite want to say "niche" but I'm glad this thread got started because there's definitely more room for the OTAKU and J-FANS in SL... Speaking of, heyyy what do ya think the Japanese extension grid will be like?

the market?? what about the school that we spent hours and hours working on then the grid crashes and takes away an hour of our work and money and somehow was able to pull ourselves together and finish the damn thing??

I collect a ton of anime and manga. I'm a big enough fan that when people use the term "Japanaimation" instead of anime it kind of grates on my nerves. ^_^ I'm not into J-pop so much, although one of my favorite bands is Feels So Bad, a Japanese metal band that I discovered because they did the theme for Demon Sensei Nube (I think that was the name).
Favorites include Ah! My Goddess, Battle Angel Alita, and anything Miyazaki. Howl's Moving Castle rocked, you should see it if you get the chance.

From: Miko Minogue Favorites include Ah! My Goddess, Battle Angel Alita, and anything Miyazaki. Howl's Moving Castle rocked, you should see it if you get the chance. Miyazaki has some great work, but when I saw Howl's Moving Castle in the theatre I wasn't nearly as impressed with it as I was with his previous work. I thought the story was weak, seemingly being nothing more than an incoherent synthesis of various traditional fairytale ideas and images, and I also found it almost impossible to empathize with the characters of the movie. Visually, it was a very rich film (what would a Miyazaki film be without gorgeous animation?) with some interesting character designs, scenery, and some very cool technology. Howl's castle was a really cool build. When I saw it, I was strongly tempted to try reproducing it in SL. I wouldn't count Howl's Moving Castle as Miyazaki's best work, nor among my favorite movies, but it's still an alright movie so long as you view it with a less critical eye.

Well I went back to see it a second time, and then ordered the Dianne Wynne book, so I guess I got a lot more out of it than you did. ^_^ Whether I consider it one of his best, that's hard to say. It's easier to say which of his films I don't rank among his very best, but even those are only a notch or two below the rest. ^_^ And as for Azumanga Daioh -- that rocks too. ^_^
