He was a huuuuge influence on my painting back when I was an art major in college.
He is pleased that you took his name and more pleased that you purchased one of my buoys. I would suggest that you pick up a "Bancroft Whaler" as well to further please him.

Hunter Legislation Protecting Mt. Soledad Passes Senate


Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate passed legislation originally introduced in the House by Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) preserving the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial. Congressman Hunter made the following statement upon Senate passage of H.R. 5683, the Mount Soledad Memorial Protection Act:

“Today’s vote represents a significant step forward in the effort to preserve the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial. I am pleased that my colleagues in the Senate recognize the importance and historical significance of this Memorial and agree that it should not be removed.

“I would like to thank Senators Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Bill Frist (R-TN) for their leadership on this issue, along with Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). I would also like to thank Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA) for their help in passing this legislation and joining Congressmen Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Darryl Issa (R-CA) and myself, in representing the people of San Diego on this matter.

“The action taken by both the House and Senate reaffirm the overwhelming desire of the San Diego community to keep the Memorial exactly where it has proudly stood for over 50 years. I look forward to President Bush signing this important piece of legislation into law, as he promised he would, and granting the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial the protection it deserves.”

Identical versions of H.R. 5683 were introduced in the Senate by Senators Sessions, McCain and Graham.


I am shocked to find out that you voted to pass this legislation. Now that this bill has passed both the House and the Senate, it becomes law once GW signs it.

Thanks for your help Kendra - er, Barbara, many people applaud your efforts to ensure that the memorial remains in tact at it's current location.
