Are you going to post some EVP's or orb photos for us or something? I'm jonesing for my fix of crazy and I don't think I can wait until George Noori.

Are you going to post some EVP's or orb photos for us or something? I'm jonesing for my fix of crazy and I don't think I can wait until George Noori. I'm at work right now. And I'm gonna have to dig through my huge archive of zip disks if I'm gonna post any of my pics. So that would prolly have to wait till Thursday. In the meantime, here's a few pics that aren't mine. Too bad the wave quality isn't better. I noticed in the spectral view that the sound is split into a distinct overtone and undertone on the whoareyoutalkingto.wav --The undertone resides generally under 1000 Hz, the overtone closer to 2000 Hz. You can also see that there are some harmonics way up at 13KHz and up. Normal voice of course has harmonics but I don't usually see really high amplitude bands that are distinct in voice unless doing guttural singing. It could just be the recording medium or the the vocal echoes vibrating in the room(?). : ![]() Can you use DAT when recording or is there some kind of restraint with that? (or did you use DAT but all the hiss came from having to turn it up so high?) _____________________

I wish my mixer wasn't broken so I could show you how similar guttural singing (think tibet monks) looks in the way the overtone separates on the last wave. At least it still looks like it could be voice, though.
This next one is bizarre (but again, could be format, room, or vocal FX ;P ), but it doesn't look like it should be voice in any normal situation I'd record. It looks so random. Imtheonetotalkto (EDIT* with a lot of hiss removed to see the wave easier) _____________________

I personally just use tape. I'm not exactly sure what the SGHA (who recorded those EVP samples I posted) use. But I got a few ghost hunting correspondants who have had success using DAT. It's also good to have some white noise going when you record EVP.

You gone all out on equipment. All I got is an E.L.F. Zone (A/C) EMF detector, a tired old 1 megapixel Aiptek digital camera, a cheap 35mm camera, and I used to have a Trifield meter, but it's kinda broken and I'm too poor to spring for a new one. _____________________

tonight's show..
10-05-2005 19:18
i just finished watching tonight's show.. ugh.
all they found through the whole episode was in the first location.. a bug crawling/flying by the lens of a cam.. and in the second location, a hoax of a bed cover moving by itself. now, i don't know what equipment is best. i don't mind so much when they goof off now and again. what i DO mind is that in this entire third season we seen squat. not that ghosts can be cued to appear on camera or anything, but really.. how can a show continue into another season when nothing happens? at least they're more professional than most other "haunted things" shows that have been on tv. *shrug* _____________________

I thought that was mildly interesting. _____________________

What makes me skeptical is when things "move by themselves" on TV shows. Because for all you know, they could have strings or automatic motors or something on them. _____________________

Faces in the Mist - Winchester House

My friend Hobbes took this when we went to visit it at the beginning of the year. Many people have seen at least 2 faces in the mist of this pic. Just thought I'd share.

Before I start, I would like to state I'm an ameteur ghost hunter. Been doing it on and off for the past eight years and I'm the Texas coordinator for the Southwest Ghost Hunters Association. So I was talking with Diffy Ogopogo yesterday about ghost hunting and the subject of the Scifi Channel show, Ghost Hunters, and the ghost hunting organization, T.A.P.S., which is featured on the show, came up. And I just started a total rant about how they are completely unprofessional and assanine... Well..without the inter-personal play between them, and the fact that they are indeed just plumbers that got into this as a hobby, the show would be even more boring than it already is. 1) You DO NOT use A/C calibrated EMF (electro-magnetic field) detectors, unless you're using them to rule out any man-made sources of electromagnetic activity, such as appliances and power lines and whatnot. If you wanna use an EMF meter as a "ghost detector", it would have to be calibrated to pick up D/C fields. And the only brand I've seen that can do that is the Trifield meter, which I never seen a member of T.A.P.S. hold. It annoys the hell out if me every time their EMF detector go off and they're all like "OMG A GHOST!". No clue about this, but I do know that they do often use it to eliminate man-made electrical activity. 2) Before hunting spooks, you eliminate any possible mundane causes for the alleged ghostly activity. While T.A.P.S tends to do this a little, they're still a little more quick to say "OMG A GHOST!" at the drop of a hat. Have you watched the show?? They generally start out each investigation by looking for mundane causes for the reported activity. In fact, they stress this often. I was actually suprised by thier lack of sensationalism and lack of ghost-belief. They seem pretty level-headed for folks doing a tv show. 3) They employ the use of daemonologists and pagans as part of their investigations. Jesus, people, while I'm not dissing anybody's spiritual beliefs, if you want to be taken seriously in the scientific community, you DO NOT use aspects of the paranormal to prove the existance of the paranormal. Now this point makes me think you really don't watch the show. They don't employ spiritualist or demonologist on any kind of regular basis, thoug they have experimented with them. Did you see the two bosses shake thier heads and roll thier eyes at the mention of the Warrens, the well-known spiritual-type investigators? They show a strong dose of skeptisism for this type of investigating and never use it as hard evidence. I think they were just being open-mined and trying some new things, as well as probably recieving pressure by the network to add some color to the show. Many folks do indeed love spiritualists and religion. 4) YOU DO NOT PLAY RECORDED EVP (electronic voice phenomena) BACK TO A CLIENT!! This is especially true if they were recorded in the client's home. That's pretty much tantamount to saying "Here's some spooky voices we recorded a few feet from your bed... sleep tight!". Now here, I definitely totally disagree with you, and it's a subject I have ALOT of experience with, as my two uncles, Mike and Joe Lamoreaux, were early pioneers in EVP research. I been to many recording sessions and heard tons of EVPs. Of course you play it for them. The client wants you to find evidence, and so you are saying if you find something worthwhile you don't let them hear it?? Umm..wrong. Of course you play it for them. Nine times out of ten they won't understand a word of it, or even be able to tell if it is words. EVPs generally take alot of patience to make out and understand, and can take considerable practice to even hear at all in some cases. 5) And finally, there's the professionalism. They're dropping *bleep*'s left and right in front of clients, squabbling with eachother, and playing pranks on one another during investigations. For instance, in an episode I saw last week, two of the guys came across a room where some bats have roosted and were flying around the room. Well, they tell the other guys in the group that they found some "activity" in that room and when they walked in, the bats started swooping around and freaking them out. You just don't do that! When you're on a ghost hunt, peoples' nerves are gonna be on end and they can panic easy. And I've seen people get hurt... including myself... when they panic. Welcome to television. Everyone plays for the camera. If you acted like Spock the entire time, your show would be cancelled in the first season. Anyways I'm done ranting. These guys are a joke. And I hope that people don't think these guys represent the ghost hunting community as a whole... They may not be top-notch, but they are far less ridiculous than I had thought the show would be. They often find nothing, and if they were that bad, they would fabricate evidence. They are just ordinairy guys with an unusual hobby. They aren't supposed to be research scientists or paranormal experts. They go in and do what they can and try to have fun. _____________________
