People see me as grey and naked

People see my avi as grey from the waist down, and naked from the waist up. I see myself just fine. What the heck is going on and how do I fix it?

i am not technically minded but sometimes editing appearance helps (just entering edit appearance and then exiting without changing anything), and also sometimes rebaking the textures helps which is ctrl-alt-R, and sometimes just the passage of time helps

It means that their machine has not loaded the textures yet. In this case, if you rebake, nothing will happen. It is the other viewer that needs to load the texture, so if they use ctrl-alt-r, it may help, or else they need to wait for textures to load. Bandwidth, cache size, and system/graphics card memory will determine how long this takes.

If you can, next time you're in SL or even at the login screen, choose Help/About and cut/paste the info about your computer here. Include the part that says what client you're using.

Your computer setup is relevant because YOUR machine creates the image of your avatar with both 'system' clothing layers and your skin "baked" together, then uploads that image to SL for others to see.

I have been playing almost a year with no major problem that couldnt be fixed......but this is driving me nuts. It started happening last night. The internet speed dropped big time last night so Im hoping it has something to do with my upload/download speed. Internet guy is supposed to fix the speed today since we pay for highspeed instead of nexttono speed lol

Which client are you using? There are rumors (and a Jira) about a bug similar to this in 1.23.4 and Snowglobe, but I'm not sure that's what you're seeing.

Cantiga, hmmmm. I know the Cantiga driver that Windows 7 uses has issues with SL, but you are on Vista.

Well, certainly the network collapsing would give you the grays. Post again if fixing the network doesn't work ... your computer setup looks fine.
