Ok i've been tryi to get my friend to play SL for a while, but the only problem we have is that his router (4port linksys) does not allow him to play. Well play well about 1 minute in SL stuff just stops pinging and all the servers start goi down 1 by 1. The first minute is ok... but after, stuff just starts dropping!
I have an older (first) linksys router with a sepreate DLINK swtich behind it... it works flawlessly!
P.S. all the firms are uptodate... and he even tried on DMZ and still same problem. Any other options, or thins I could tell him to change?

Are you sure it's the router? Did you try taking it out of the loop completely?

That thread deals with multiple connections. I was under the impression that he was talking about a single connection. I have a linksys router and have no problems whatsoever with a single connection. I have had similar problems which I eventually tracked down to a bad driver for my NIC. So if you can eliminate the router from the equation you might want to try and update the driver for the network card. -Code

Did the person previously play a different MMOG such as EQ?
If so, I had to make specific changes to the router to get EQ to work right through my Linksys. Those settings screwed up SL until I really cleared them (reset, not just remove the numbers).
If not, chuck it. Get a D-Link router - 4 port D-Link routers are $45 direct from D-Link, cheaper elsewhere probably. Oh, US$ that is. Or about L$12,000.

Told yas (Ok, not really, but I'll take credit anyhow.) I just figured it might be a related problem even if it wasn't exactly the same.
