Hey guys,

I am having this problem for the last few days where I sign into my account and load my Inventory. It starts loading it but when it reaches 3,194 items the view freezes and crashes. I've tried clearing the cache, logs, preview grid, etc.... and nothing. I've submitted a ticket but no reply in a few days so thought maybe someone here would know! I have about 8,000 items in my inventory and would like to not lose them.

Thanks,
MattPaul

Weird.

Got lots of free disk space? Defragged lately?

Tried a different viewer?

Yes, I have 500GB of Disk Space available and I have tried it on various computers using various viewers including the normal, RC, and Snowglobe. Nothing.....

Er..

/me wonders if you're running into a bandwidth cap. Have you tried turning that down? In preferences, on the network tab, IIRC. Crank it way down and see what happens.

/me is stumped then. Sorry.

You could try uninstalling (first make a copy of your chat/IM logs if you care about them) SL and nuking the whole SecondLife directory somewhere under 'c:\documents and settings" but I wouldn't bet that it will help.

Plenty of clever people around here. Don't give up hope - stumping me is easy. :)

Thanks, but still no use...maybe tomorrow Second Life will email me with a new solution! :D

You could look at secondlife.log and see if the last part of it gives you any clues.

A couple tricks that might work. Luanch SL but don't log in. Open your preferrences from the Edit menu. On the General tab tick the "Show start up location" if it's not already checked. Then on the network tab look for a box that contains your cache location and write it down. Go to the Web tab and "Clear your browser cache"...you'll get a confirmation asking if you are sure........say yes. Your log in screen will refresh (it might take a few seconds for it to reload). Then quit SL. Find that cache folder you wrote the location to and manually delete it (it will be rebuilt when you launch SL again....no harm will come to the viewer). You could reboot if you want but I don't think it's necessary. The launch SL again. On your start up screen you should see a new box where you can enter a location to log into (the choices are "last location", "home", and "type a location". Us the type a location and enter Philudoria (that's my home sim and it is generally a very quiet sim with as little lag as any I've been in lately. When you land in the sim you will probably be a mist cloud for a few seconds. Just stand there without moving around and see if your inventory loads this time........if it does then go ahead and do a slow spin while standing in place to allow everything around to load into your cache. All this might take a few minutes depending on your connection speed and what you have your graphics settings set at.

If all goes well you should be good to go about your stuff in SL like before.

Here's crossing my fingers for you.

The number went a tiny bit higher loading items but it froze again and crashed. I'm getting pretty convinced my account and the $70 I put into it are a lost cause. Thanks though...

If it helps at all I just realized if i try to quit second life or click map i crash as well. Keep in mind I have Reinstalled Second Life twice while deleting all Program Files and App Data as well, so I don't think it's the viewer...

Submit a support ticket. It appears that something in your inventory is screwed up. LL can find and fix it for you. If you are premium you can live chat from the support page too.........they probably won't be able to help but they can coach you on what to say in the support ticket to get more immediate attention.

What I do know about support tickets is to tell them your problem as clearly as possible in the subject line. Then detail as clearly as possible what happens. In your case I would mention you've been on the forums and tried all the suggestions put forth to no avail.........that way they will know you have done all you can. They are busy people so the more you do to help them help you the faster and better service you will get in return.

I've had excellent responses from support in the past.

Unlikely.. Sorry but unless you're lucky enough to get a Linden that knows the answer off the top of their head, you're going to be waiting a while.. :(

Bleh...that bites...does anyone know what the chances are of me losing my inventory, or is that something that just doesn't happen?

If the problem is something bogus in your inventory, LL may delete that one item. As far as nuking your whole inventory without asking you first, I sorta doubt it.

Have you tried making an alt? That'd at least show you if it's something related to this particular account and it's inventory or if it's something on your machine..

We've tried logging my account in on another computer, as well as having a friend log in on my machine. It's related to my account. We have also tried other SL Viewers and in some of those it won't even load my account, it just crashes as I load my account.

Here's a list of things that crash my SL Viewer:

Loading Recent Items - Fetching My Inventory
Map
File>Quit

No, I'm not. I might consider doing it if it means maybe fixing my account, but my bank account is completely empty right now. I don't get paid until Monday... :P

Okay............just asking because if you were you could use Live Chat and get an update on your Support Ticket.

It is a thought for the future...........but not sure it's something that, for you, is worth the extra expense. That would be your decision.

Oh, it definitely would be worth doing. I'll give everyone an update if I get my ticket response before Monday! Thanks for all the help everyone!

Best of luck, MP!

Don't be holding your breath waiting for LL to fix it though - I'll be quite surprised if they even respond in under a week..

However, just to kick them a little on the foot (gently :) ), I'd do a follow up ticket before the day is over.

How do I do that? Just leave a comment on the ticket? Or file another one?
