How can I turn off hover tips?

An annoying hover tip keeps popping up over the chat box and I can't see what I'm typing, and it won't go away until after 5 seconds. Is there a way to turn this off or even shorten the length of time on it?

Uncheck:
View > Hovertips > Show Tips

The problem with that is that also disables those sometimes handy info boxes you get with mousing over items for sales too.

It's a trade off.

PS. It has a shortcut Ctrl-Shift-T, so should be easy to toggle on and off at need.

Well, I think the OP is referring to those squared-off notices, not the rounded hovertip boxes.

I think there is still a file you can edit with the popup help for the buttons to remove the popup help for the buttons, replacing popup help text with the empty string, "" . It's an xml file in the Second Life program folder, I think.
