Help txt that hover over SL viewer buttons

How do I remove the help text that hovers above each button. When I write in local chat, that text hovers above what I am writing so I can't see my words, so I am hoping there is a way to remove all of them.

Thanks,
Cheryl

I'm not sure if there's a way to turn it off but yeah, that bugs me too. If there is a setting, it's likely either under the View menu or in Preferences.

I usually just move the mouse over to a different part of the screen and the tooltip goes away.

I have actually sent the msg before it was finished because of the text blocking my view.

I'm not in world to check, but you could try turning off Hover Tips and see if that does it.

I thought the hover tips worked but they didn't.

There is a debug setting ToolTipDelay you can fiddle with. Default is 0.7 seconds, you can jack that to 99999 or so to keep them from appearing at all, or maybe a few seconds if you do like to have them but not constantly in your way.

ToolTipDelay unfortunately affects not only the button ToolTips but also the LSL ToolTips.

You can edit the xml files that hold the tooltips.

Here's one thread on tooltip removal: /111/41/153949/1.html .

And another on uncontrollable tooltips elsewhere in the interface: /142/39/165913/1.html

On a windows xp U.S. English default installation of SL the files with the tooltips text live in C:\Program Files\SecondLife\skins\xui\en-us . Your path may vary.

Using a text editor, edit the file panel_toolbar.xml in C:\Program Files\SecondLife\skins\en-us and remove the lines that say stuff like "tooltip="The fly button makes you fly.""

Thank you so much! The one that was driving me crazy the most was "Press enter to say, something else to shout". That file is called panel_chat_bar.xml.
Once I edited and relogged, it was gone! Yay!

Thanks,
Cheryl

You're welcome, glad I could help.

I use so many viewers and change them so often I don't even use my own suggestion.
